Important Safeguards

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:

  • Read all instructions before operating the coffeemaker.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles and knobs.
  • To protect against electric shock, do not place cord, plug, or coffeemaker in water or other liquids.
  • Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
  • Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
  • Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been dropped or damaged in any manner.
  • The use of accessory attachments not recommended by Cuisinart may cause injuries.
  • Do not use outdoors.
  • Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
  • Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  • Always fill the water reservoir first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to 'OFF', then remove plug from wall outlet.
  • Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
  • Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing cycle.
  • The glass carafe is designed for use with this coffeemaker only. It must never be used on a range top.
  • Do not set a hot carafe on a wet or cold surface.
  • Do not use a cracked carafe or a carafe having a loose or weakened handle.
  • Do not clean carafe with cleansers, steel wool pads, or other abrasive materials.

Before First Use

Before using your Cuisinart PerfecTemp Coffeemaker for the first time, it is recommended to clean all removable parts and run a full cycle with water only.

  1. Wash the carafe, carafe lid, filter basket, and gold-tone filter in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  2. Insert the charcoal water filter into its holder and place it in the water reservoir.
  3. Fill the water reservoir to the 14-cup mark with fresh, cold water.
  4. Ensure the filter basket is in place (without coffee grounds or paper filter).
  5. Place the empty carafe with its lid on the heating plate.
  6. Plug the coffeemaker into an electrical outlet.
  7. Press the 'BREW/OFF' button to start a brewing cycle with water only.
  8. Once the cycle is complete, discard the hot water and rinse the carafe. Your coffeemaker is now ready for use.

Setup

Setting the Clock

  1. Plug the coffeemaker into an electrical outlet. The digital display will flash '12:00'.
  2. Turn the control knob to select 'CLOCK'.
  3. Press the control knob to confirm. The hour digits will begin to flash.
  4. Turn the control knob to adjust the hour. Pay attention to the AM/PM indicator.
  5. Press the control knob to confirm the hour. The minute digits will begin to flash.
  6. Turn the control knob to adjust the minutes.
  7. Press the control knob to confirm the minutes. The clock is now set.

Programming Auto On

The Auto On function allows you to program the coffeemaker to start brewing at a specific time.

  1. Ensure the current time is set correctly.
  2. Turn the control knob to select 'AUTO ON'.
  3. Press the control knob to confirm. The hour digits will begin to flash.
  4. Turn the control knob to adjust the desired auto-on hour (AM/PM).
  5. Press the control knob to confirm the hour. The minute digits will begin to flash.
  6. Turn the control knob to adjust the desired auto-on minutes.
  7. Press the control knob to confirm the minutes. The 'AUTO ON' indicator light will illuminate, confirming the setting.

Adjusting Keep Warm Time

The coffeemaker's heating plate keeps coffee warm for a default period. You can extend this time.

  1. After brewing, the 'Keep Warm' function activates automatically.
  2. To extend the keep warm time, press the '+30' button. Each press adds 30 minutes, up to a maximum of 4 hours.
  3. The display will show the remaining keep warm time.

Setting Carafe Temperature

You can adjust the temperature of the heating plate to keep your coffee at your preferred warmth.

  1. Turn the control knob to select 'CARAFE TEMP'.
  2. Press the control knob to confirm.
  3. Turn the control knob to select your desired temperature setting (Low, Medium, High).
  4. Press the control knob to confirm your selection.

Operating Instructions

Brewing Coffee

  1. Ensure the coffeemaker is plugged in and the clock is set.
  2. Open the top lid and fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water to the desired level (up to 14 cups).
  3. Place the gold-tone filter or a paper filter (basket style) into the filter basket.
  4. Add the desired amount of ground coffee to the filter. For best results, use 1 scoop (1 tablespoon) of ground coffee per cup. Adjust to taste.
  5. Close the top lid securely.
  6. Place the empty glass carafe with its lid on the heating plate.
  7. Press the 'BREW/OFF' button to start the brewing cycle. The 'BREW' indicator light will illuminate.
  8. Once brewing is complete, the coffeemaker will beep five times, and the 'Keep Warm' function will activate.

1-4 Cup Setting

For brewing smaller quantities of coffee (1-4 cups), use the '1-4' setting to optimize flavor extraction.

  1. Follow steps 1-5 for 'Brewing Coffee', filling the water reservoir to the desired 1-4 cup mark.
  2. Press the '1-4' button. The indicator light will illuminate.
  3. Press the 'BREW/OFF' button to start brewing.

Over Ice Function

The 'Over Ice' function is designed to brew concentrated coffee directly over ice for a refreshing iced coffee.

  1. Fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water according to the desired number of iced coffee servings. (Refer to specific instructions in the full manual for water-to-ice ratios).
  2. Place the gold-tone filter or a paper filter into the filter basket and add ground coffee. Use slightly more coffee than for hot brewing to account for dilution by ice.
  3. Fill the glass carafe with ice cubes.
  4. Place the carafe with ice on the heating plate.
  5. Press the 'OVER ICE' button. The indicator light will illuminate.
  6. Press the 'BREW/OFF' button to start brewing. The coffeemaker will brew a concentrated coffee directly over the ice.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Daily Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and taste.

  1. Always unplug the coffeemaker from the electrical outlet before cleaning.
  2. Wash the glass carafe, carafe lid, and filter basket in warm, soapy water. These parts are also top-rack dishwasher safe.
  3. Wipe the exterior of the coffeemaker with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  4. Do not immerse the coffeemaker base in water or any other liquid.

Decalcification (Descaling)

Mineral deposits (calcium and lime) can build up in your coffeemaker and affect its performance. Decalcify your coffeemaker every 3-6 months, or more frequently in hard water areas.

  1. Fill the water reservoir with a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water.
  2. Place the empty carafe on the heating plate.
  3. Press the 'CLEAN' button. The 'CLEAN' indicator light will illuminate.
  4. Press the 'BREW/OFF' button to start the cleaning cycle.
  5. When the cycle is complete, the coffeemaker will beep five times and shut off.
  6. Run 2-3 cycles with fresh, cold water only to rinse out any remaining vinegar solution.

Charcoal Water Filter Replacement

The charcoal water filter helps remove chlorine and other impurities from tap water. Replace it every 60 days or after 60 uses.

  1. Remove the old charcoal water filter from its holder.
  2. Soak a new charcoal filter in cold tap water for 15 minutes.
  3. Rinse the new filter under cold running water for 10 seconds.
  4. Insert the new filter into the filter holder, ensuring it snaps securely into place.
  5. Place the filter holder back into the water reservoir.

Troubleshooting
