When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:
- Read all instructions.
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles and knobs.
- To protect against electric shock, do not place cord, plug, or coffeemaker in water or other liquids.
- Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
- Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
- Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been dropped or damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest Cuisinart Repair Center for examination, repair, or adjustment.
- The use of accessory attachments not recommended by Cuisinart may cause injuries.
- Do not use outdoors.
- Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
- Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
- Always fill water reservoir first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to “off,” then remove plug from wall outlet.
- Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
- Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing cycle.
- The glass carafe is designed for use with this coffeemaker only. It must never be used on a range top.
- Do not place a hot carafe on a wet or cold surface.
- Do not use a cracked carafe or a carafe having a loose or weakened handle.
- Do not clean carafe or warming plate with cleansers, steel wool pads, or other abrasive materials.

Before First Use
Before using your new Cuisinart PerfecTemp Coffeemaker for the first time, it is recommended to clean the unit.
- Wash the carafe, carafe lid, filter basket, and gold-tone filter in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and place back into the coffeemaker.
- Fill the water reservoir to the 14-cup mark with cold water.
- Run one or two brew cycles with only water. This will clean the internal components and remove any manufacturing residue.
- Discard the water and repeat if necessary.
Setup
Proper setup ensures optimal performance and safety.
1. Placing the Coffeemaker
Place the coffeemaker on a flat, stable surface. Ensure there is adequate clearance above the unit for the lid to open fully and for steam to escape during brewing.
2. Installing the Charcoal Water Filter
The charcoal water filter helps remove chlorine, bad tastes, and odors from tap water.
- Remove the filter holder from the water reservoir.
- Soak the charcoal filter in cold tap water for 15 minutes.
- Insert the charcoal filter into the filter holder.
- Place the filter holder back into the water reservoir, ensuring it snaps securely into place.
Note: Replace the charcoal water filter every 60 days or after 60 uses.
3. Setting the Clock
To set the current time:
- Plug the coffeemaker into an electrical outlet. The display will flash 12:00.
- Turn the central knob to adjust the hour. Press the knob to confirm.
- Turn the central knob to adjust the minute. Press the knob to confirm.

Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for brewing coffee and utilizing the coffeemaker's features.
1. Brewing Coffee
- Fill Water Reservoir: Open the top lid and fill the water reservoir with cold, fresh water to the desired level, indicated by the water level markings. The front-fill design allows for easy access.
- Add Coffee Grounds: Place the gold-tone filter (or a paper filter) into the filter basket. Add the desired amount of ground coffee. For best results, use 1 scoop (1 tablespoon) of ground coffee per cup. Adjust to taste.
- Select 1-4 Cup Setting (Optional): If brewing 4 cups or less, press the '1-4' button. This optimizes the brewing process for smaller quantities.
- Start Brewing: Press the 'BREW/OFF' button to begin the brewing cycle. The indicator light will illuminate.
- Brew Pause Feature: You can temporarily remove the carafe during brewing to pour a cup. The flow of coffee will automatically stop. Return the carafe within 20 seconds to prevent overflow.

2. Programming Auto-On
Set the coffeemaker to start brewing at a specific time.
- Prepare the coffeemaker for brewing as described in steps 1 and 2 above.
- Press the 'AUTO ON' button. The indicator light will flash.
- Turn the central knob to adjust the desired auto-on hour. Press the knob to confirm.
- Turn the central knob to adjust the desired auto-on minute. Press the knob to confirm.
- The 'AUTO ON' indicator light will remain illuminated, indicating the coffeemaker is set to brew at the programmed time.

3. Over Ice Function
Brew concentrated coffee directly over ice for a refreshing iced coffee.
- Fill the water reservoir to the desired level (e.g., 6-8 cups for a strong iced coffee).
- Add coffee grounds to the filter basket, using a slightly higher ratio than for hot coffee.
- Fill the carafe with ice cubes to the 14-cup mark.
- Press the 'OVER ICE' button. The indicator light will illuminate.
- Press the 'BREW/OFF' button to start brewing. The coffeemaker will brew a concentrated amount of coffee directly into the ice-filled carafe.

4. Keep Warm Function
The coffeemaker's warming plate keeps coffee hot after brewing. The default auto-shutoff is 4 hours. You can extend this.
- To extend the keep warm time by 30 minutes, press the '+30' button. This can be done multiple times to extend the warming period up to a maximum of 4 hours.

Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure the longevity and performance of your coffeemaker.
1. Daily Cleaning
- Always unplug the coffeemaker from the electrical outlet before cleaning.
- Wash the carafe, carafe lid, filter basket, and gold-tone filter in warm, soapy water. These parts are also top-rack dishwasher safe.
- Wipe the exterior of the coffeemaker with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Do not immerse the coffeemaker base in water or any other liquid.
2. Decalcification
Mineral deposits (calcium) can build up in your coffeemaker and affect its performance. Decalcify your coffeemaker every few months, or more often if you have hard water.
- Fill the water reservoir with a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water.
- Press the 'CLEAN' button (if available, otherwise proceed to next step).
- Press the 'BREW/OFF' button to start a partial brewing cycle. Allow half of the mixture to brew through.
- Press the 'BREW/OFF' button to turn off the coffeemaker.
- Let the mixture soak in the coffeemaker for at least 30 minutes.
- Press the 'BREW/OFF' button to complete the brewing cycle.
- Run two or three cycles with fresh, cold water to rinse out any remaining vinegar.
3. Charcoal Water Filter Replacement
Replace the charcoal water filter every 60 days or after 60 uses to maintain optimal water quality.
- Remove the old filter from the filter holder.
- Soak a new charcoal filter in cold tap water for 15 minutes.
- Insert the new filter into the filter holder and place it back into the water reservoir.
