Setup and Initial Winding

Your GLENAW 8998 watch is an automatic mechanical timepiece and does not require a battery. It is powered by the natural motion of your wrist. However, for initial setup or if the watch has stopped due to inactivity, manual winding is necessary.

  1. Initial Winding: Before wearing, or if the watch has stopped, manually wind the watch by turning the middle crown clockwise 20-30 times. This provides the initial power reserve.
  2. Daily Wear: When worn regularly (8-10 hours a day), the watch will self-wind through your arm movements.
  3. Insufficient Power: If you do not wear the watch daily or engage in minimal physical activity, it may stop. In such cases, manually wind it daily to ensure continuous operation.

Operating Instructions

The GLENAW 8998 watch features multiple functions including time, date, day, and year. Use the crowns and invisible buttons to adjust these settings.

    • Use a small, pointed tool to gently press this button to adjust the day of the week.

Important Note: Avoid adjusting the date, day, or month between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement. If adjustment is needed during this period, first set the time outside this range, adjust the calendar functions, then reset the time.

Maintenance and Care

  • Water Resistance: The watch is 30M (3ATM) water resistant. This means it can withstand splashes, rain, and hand washing. It is not suitable for showering, bathing, swimming, diving, or any activities involving hot water or steam, as this can compromise the seals.
  • Cleaning: Wipe the watch case and strap with a soft, dry cloth regularly to remove dirt and sweat. For metal straps, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying.
  • Avoid Extreme Conditions: Protect your watch from extreme temperatures, strong magnetic fields, and harsh chemicals.
  • Impact: Avoid dropping the watch or subjecting it to strong impacts, which can damage the delicate mechanical movement.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Watch stops or runs intermittently.Insufficient kinetic energy (not enough movement or manual winding).Manually wind the watch by turning the middle crown clockwise 20-30 times. Ensure regular wear or daily manual winding.
Time deviation (watch runs fast or slow).Mechanical watches naturally have some time deviation.A deviation of 30-60 seconds per day is within international standards for mechanical watches. If deviation is significantly higher, contact support.
Water ingress.Exposure to water beyond 3ATM rating (e.g., showering, swimming, hot water).Immediately cease use and contact customer service. Do not attempt to open the watch.
