5.2 Prepare the Truck Bed

  1. Clean the truck bed rails and bulkhead thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and a clean cloth to ensure proper adhesion of the weather seal strip.

5.3 Position and Secure the Cover

  1. Place the tonneau cover assembly onto the truck bulkhead, ensuring it is centered and covers the bed opening properly.
  2. Align the buckle mounts according to the holes in the front bar of the tonneau cover. Fasten them with the hex key.
  3. For trucks with utility tracks: Slide the aluminum blocks into the utility track, align them with the front clamp's position, and tighten the screws.
  4. For trucks without utility tracks: Assemble two front clamps using the Alu Buckles and Knob through the pre-installed T-Bolt. Slide them towards the side rail and tighten on both ends.

5.5 Important Installation Notes

  • All clamps must contact the metal bed rail lip tightly for securing the cover.
  • If your truck bed has long plastic protection on the metal bed rail, cut the plastic off so the clamp can contact and lock on the metal bed rail lip.
  • Only lock the clamps on the metal bed rail lip. Locking on plastic may loosen the clamp handle and cause the tonneau cover to open during driving.

6. Operating Instructions

The XTWEEX Hard Tri-fold Tonneau Cover offers versatile access to your truck bed:

6.1 Opening and Closing the Cover

  • Full Coverage: When fully extended, ensure all clamps are securely latched to the truck bed rails.
  • Half Open: To access the front portion of the bed, release the rear clamps and fold the last panel forward. Secure it with the integrated straps.
  • Stand Upright: For larger cargo, release the middle clamps and fold the cover completely towards the cab. Use the prop rods or straps to secure it in an upright position.
  • Fully Open: The cover can be completely folded and secured against the cab for full bed access.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will help preserve the appearance and functionality of your tonneau cover:

  • Cleaning: Wash the cover regularly with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the matte black finish. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.
  • Seals: Periodically inspect the weather seals around the perimeter of the cover for any signs of wear or damage. Ensure they are free of debris to maintain water resistance.
  • Hardware: Check all clamps, latches, and mounting hardware periodically to ensure they remain tight and secure. Tighten any loose fasteners as needed.
  • Material Integrity: The cover is constructed from high-strength fiberglass reinforced polymer (FRP) honeycomb panels, offering excellent resistance to corrosion, water, and snow. While durable, avoid placing excessive weight on the cover beyond its 350-pound limit.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your tonneau cover, refer to the following common solutions:

  • Water Leaks:
    • Ensure the weather seal strip on the bulkhead is properly installed and free of gaps.
    • Check that all clamps are securely tightened and making full contact with the metal bed rail lip.
    • Inspect the seals along the cover's edges for any damage or misalignment.
  • Cover Not Latching Securely:
    • Verify that the cover is correctly positioned and centered on the truck bed.
    • Ensure no cargo or debris is obstructing the latching mechanisms.
    • Check for any damage to the clamps or latches that might prevent proper engagement.
  • Difficulty Folding/Unfolding:
    • Ensure all clamps are fully disengaged before attempting to fold the panels.
    • Check for any obstructions in the truck bed or along the rails that might impede movement.
