5. Setup & Installation
5.1 Choosing a Location
For optimal protection, install smoke and CO alarms on every level of your home, including basements, and in every sleeping area. Avoid installing near windows, doors, or vents where drafts could interfere with detection. Keep away from cooking appliances and bathrooms.
5.2 Mounting the Detector
- Select a suitable mounting location on the ceiling or wall.
- Use the mounting plate as a template to mark the screw holes.
- Drill holes and insert wall plugs if necessary.
- Secure the mounting plate to the ceiling or wall using the provided screws.
- Align the detector with the mounting plate and rotate it clockwise until it clicks into place. This action will activate the internal battery.

5.3 Interconnecting Alarms
To enable whole-home coverage, you can wirelessly interconnect up to 18 Ecoey A8612B-4R alarms. Follow these steps to pair your detectors:
- Choose one detector as the primary unit.
- Press the TEST/SILENCE button on the primary unit three times within two seconds. The unit will announce "Pairing" (and "Appariement" in French).
- Within 2 minutes, take another detector you wish to interconnect and press its TEST/SILENCE button three times within two seconds. It will also announce "Pairing".
- Once successfully paired, the units will announce "Pairing Success" (and "Succès de l'appariement").
- Repeat for all additional units you wish to interconnect.
- Test the interconnection by pressing the TEST/SILENCE button on any one alarm. All interconnected alarms should sound.

6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Test/Silence Button
The large central button on the detector serves two functions:
- Test Function: Press and hold the button for a few seconds to test the alarm's functionality. The alarm will sound, and the LED indicator will flash.
- Silence Function: In case of a non-emergency alarm (e.g., cooking fumes), press the button to temporarily silence the alarm for approximately 10 minutes. The alarm will automatically reset after this period. If the hazard persists, the alarm will reactivate.

6.2 Alarm Patterns and Voice Alerts
The detector provides distinct alerts for smoke and carbon monoxide:
- Smoke Alarm: Three long beeps followed by a voice alert: "Fire!" (and "Incendie!"). This pattern repeats.
- CO Alarm: Four quick beeps followed by a voice alert: "Warning! Carbon Monoxide" (and "Attention! monoxyde de carbone"). This pattern repeats.
6.3 LED Indicators
The LED indicator provides visual status of the detector:
- Green Light: Indicates normal operation. Flashes periodically.
- Yellow Light: Indicates a fault or low battery warning.
- Red Light: Indicates an alarm condition (smoke or CO detected).

6.4 Alarm Memory
The detector stores a record of past alarms. To check the alarm history, press the TEST/SILENCE button. The unit will announce "Fire alarm before, The total number of historical alarms is X" (where X is the number of past alarms).

7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures your detector functions correctly:
- Weekly Testing: Press the TEST/SILENCE button weekly to ensure the alarm is functioning. All interconnected alarms should sound.
- Monthly Cleaning: Gently vacuum the detector's cover and vents using a soft brush attachment to remove dust and debris. Do not use cleaning solvents or sprays.
- Battery Replacement: The detector has a sealed 10-year battery and does not require replacement. When the battery reaches the end of its life, the unit will chirp periodically, indicating it's time to replace the entire detector.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Alarm chirps periodically (yellow light) | Low battery or fault condition. | Press the silence button for 10 hours of silence. Replace the detector immediately as the battery is at end-of-life. |
| Alarm sounds without apparent smoke/CO | False alarm due to cooking fumes, steam, or dust. | Press the TEST/SILENCE button to silence the alarm. Ventilate the area. Clean the detector if dust is suspected. |
| Alarm does not sound during test | Detector not properly activated or faulty. | Ensure the detector is fully rotated onto the mounting plate until it clicks. If still unresponsive, the unit may be faulty and needs replacement. |
| Interconnection fails | Incorrect pairing procedure or too many units. | Review Section 5.3 and repeat the pairing process carefully. Ensure no more than 18 units are interconnected. |
