5. Setup and Installation

5.1. Choosing a Location

Install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on every level of your home, including basements and attics. For optimal protection, install alarms inside each bedroom and outside every sleeping area. Keep alarms away from cooking appliances, heating vents, and areas with high humidity to prevent false alarms.

5.2. Mounting the Detector

1. Disconnect Power: Before beginning installation, ensure that power to the circuit where the detector will be installed is turned off at the main service panel.
2. Attach Mounting Plate: Secure the mounting plate to the ceiling or wall using the provided screws and anchors. Ensure the plate is firmly attached.
3. Connect Hardwiring: Connect the hardwiring cable to your home's electrical wiring. The cable typically includes black (hot), white (neutral), and red (interconnect) wires. Match these to the corresponding wires in your electrical box.
4. Install Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the back of the detector unit. Insert the 2 AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-). Close the compartment securely.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Power-Up and Self-Test

Once installed and power is restored, the detector will perform a self-test. The LED indicator will flash green, and you may hear a brief chirp or voice announcement indicating it is powering up.

6.2. Testing the Alarm

Press and hold the large 'Test/Silence' button located in the center of the detector for a few seconds. The unit will emit a series of loud beeps and voice announcements (e.g., "Fire! Incendie!" or "Warning! Carbon Monoxide! Attention! Monoxyde de carbone!"). This confirms the alarm is functioning correctly.

6.3. Silence Feature

In case of a nuisance alarm (e.g., from cooking smoke), press the 'Test/Silence' button to temporarily silence the alarm for approximately 10 minutes. The alarm will automatically reset after this period.

6.4. LED Indicators

• Green LED: Indicates normal operation and power.
• Yellow LED: Indicates a fault or low battery condition.
• Red LED: Indicates an alarm condition (smoke or carbon monoxide detected).

7. Maintenance

7.1. Regular Testing

Test your smoke and carbon monoxide detector weekly by pressing the 'Test/Silence' button. This ensures the electronic circuitry, alarm, and battery are working.

7.2. Battery Replacement

Replace the 2 AA batteries annually or immediately when the unit chirps and the yellow LED flashes, indicating a low battery. The unit features a 10-hour non-disturb mode for low battery status, allowing you to replace batteries at a convenient time without constant chirping.
