Operating Instructions
Making Espresso with Ground Coffee
- Ensure the machine is on and heated (indicator lights solid).

- Add finely ground espresso coffee to the filter. For a single shot, use one level scoop (approx. 7g); for a double shot, use two level scoops (approx. 14g).

- Attach the filter holder to the machine by aligning it and turning it firmly to the right until it locks into place.

Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your espresso machine.
Daily Cleaning
- Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily.
- Filter Holder and Filters: After each use, remove the filter holder, discard coffee grounds/pods, and rinse the filter and holder under running water.
- Steam Wand: Immediately after frothing milk, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth. Briefly open the steam knob to purge any milk residue from inside.
- Water Tank: Rinse the water tank daily and refill with fresh water.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
Descaling
Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) can build up in the machine, affecting performance. The Ariete 1399 has a cleaning indicator. Descale your machine regularly, depending on water hardness and usage (e.g., every 2-3 months).
- Empty the water tank and drip tray.
- Fill the water tank with a descaling solution specifically designed for espresso machines, following the manufacturer's instructions for dilution.
- Place a large container under the filter holder and steam wand.
- Turn on the machine and allow it to heat up.
- Run approximately half of the descaling solution through the filter holder by pressing the 2-cup espresso button.
- Turn the steam/hot water knob to dispense the remaining solution through the steam wand.
- Turn off the machine and let it sit for 10-15 minutes to allow the descaling solution to work.
- Rinse the water tank thoroughly and fill it with fresh water.
- Repeat steps 3-5 with fresh water to rinse the machine completely. Run at least two full tanks of fresh water through the machine to ensure all descaling solution is removed.
Troubleshooting

| Coffee flows too quickly, weak espresso. | Coffee ground too coarse; not enough coffee; coffee not tamped enough. | Use finer grind; add more coffee; tamp more firmly. |
| Steam wand not producing steam. | Machine not at steaming temperature; steam wand clogged. | Wait for steam indicator light to be solid; clean steam wand with cleaning needle. |
| Water leaking from machine. | Water tank not seated correctly; drip tray full; seal issue. | Ensure water tank is properly inserted; empty drip tray; contact support if seal issue. |
