3. Setup and Installation
Proper wiring is crucial for the safe and effective operation of your JKBMS. Please follow these steps carefully. It is recommended to consult a qualified professional if you are unsure about any part of the installation process.
3.1 Wiring Diagram and Connections

Figure 3: General wiring diagram for the JKBMS, illustrating connections to the battery pack, load, and charger.
- Balance Wires: Connect the balance wires from your battery cells to the corresponding ports on the BMS. Ensure the black B0 cable connects to the total negative pole of the battery. Subsequent red cables (B1, B2, etc.) connect to the positive pole of each battery string in sequence.
- Main Power Cables: Connect the main negative (B-) and positive (P+) terminals of the BMS to your battery pack and load/charger as per the diagram.
- Power Switch: Connect the provided power switch to the designated port on the BMS. This switch is used to activate the BMS.
- NTC Temperature Sensor: Connect the NTC temperature sensor to the BMS to enable temperature monitoring and protection.
- Heating Cable: If your model includes a heating function, connect the heating cable as instructed.
- CAN Cable: If using CAN communication, connect the CAN cable. Note that an RS485 converter is not included and may be required for certain setups.
3.2 Verification Steps
After wiring, perform the following checks before powering on the system:
- Balance Wire Voltage Check: Use a multimeter to measure the voltage between adjacent balance wires. The voltage difference between the batteries in each string of wires should be less than 1V. This indicates correct balance wire connection.
- Total Battery Voltage Check: Place the black pin of the multimeter tester on the negative terminal of the battery and the red pin on the positive terminal to measure the total voltage of the battery pack.
- BMS Output Voltage Check: With the red pin of the multimeter stationary on the battery's positive terminal, place the black pin on the P- cable port of the BMS. Measure the battery voltage after passing through the BMS. If this measurement is consistent with the total battery voltage, the cable connection is correct.
3.3 Initial Power On
Once all connections are verified, press the switch button connected to the BMS to start the unit. You should hear an audible confirmation (a beep) indicating the BMS is active.

4. Operation
The JKBMS Smart BMS is primarily operated and monitored via its dedicated mobile application, available for Android and iOS devices. This app provides real-time data and allows for configuration adjustments.
4.1 Smart Bluetooth App

Figure 4: Screenshot of the JKBMS Smart Bluetooth App interface, showing real-time battery data and control options.
- Download the App: Search for "JK BMS" or "JKBMS" in your device's app store (Google Play Store for Android, Apple App Store for iOS).
- Connect via Bluetooth: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device. Open the app and follow the prompts to connect to your JKBMS unit.
- Monitor Data: The app displays real-time battery data, including total voltage, individual cell voltages, current, temperature, State of Charge (SOC), and cycle count.
- Adjust Settings: You can modify various parameters such as overcharge/over-discharge protection thresholds, overcurrent limits, and balance settings directly from the app.
- Control Switches: The app allows you to control charging and discharging switches, providing remote management capabilities.
The active balancing feature works continuously to equalize cell voltages, optimizing battery performance and extending its lifespan. This process is managed automatically by the BMS, but its status can be monitored via the app.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your JKBMS and battery system. While the BMS itself requires minimal maintenance, periodic checks are recommended.
- Keep Clean: Periodically inspect the BMS and its connections for dust, dirt, or corrosion. Gently clean with a dry, soft cloth if necessary. Ensure proper ventilation around the unit.
- Connection Integrity: Occasionally check all wiring connections to ensure they remain tight and secure. Loose connections can lead to poor performance or safety hazards.
- Monitor App Data: Regularly check the JKBMS app for any unusual readings or alerts. Pay attention to cell voltage differences, temperature, and current flow.
- Firmware Updates: Check the manufacturer's website or app for any available firmware updates for your BMS. Updates can improve performance, add features, or address bugs.
- Environmental Conditions: Ensure the BMS operates within its specified temperature and humidity ranges to prevent damage.

6. Troubleshooting
This section provides guidance on common issues you might encounter with your JKBMS Smart BMS. For more complex problems, please refer to the support section.
Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
BMS not powering on | Incorrect wiring, loose connections, faulty switch, low battery voltage. | Verify all wiring according to the diagram (Section 3.1). Ensure the power switch is correctly connected and pressed. Check battery voltage; if too low, the BMS may not activate. |
Bluetooth connection issues | Bluetooth not enabled, app permissions, interference, outdated app. | Ensure Bluetooth is on and the app has necessary permissions. Restart the app and/or your phone. Try connecting from a closer distance. Update the app to the latest version. |
Over-voltage error indication | Battery cell(s) exceeding safe voltage limit. | The BMS has triggered protection. This can often be resolved with a small reset by cycling the power switch or disconnecting and reconnecting the main battery terminals (with caution). Check individual cell voltages via the app to identify the problematic cell. |
Battery not balancing effectively | Significant cell voltage imbalance, balance current limitations. | Allow the BMS more time to balance, especially if the imbalance is large. Ensure the battery is within the optimal voltage range for balancing. Verify balance wire connections. |
BMS frequently entering protection mode | Overcurrent, over/under voltage, over-temperature. | Check the app for specific error codes or protection triggers. Reduce load if overcurrent is detected. Ensure charging/discharging voltages are within safe limits. Check battery temperature and ensure adequate cooling. |
