1. Introduction

4. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to connect your hard drives to the SUIDEK adapter:

  1. Connect Adapter to PC: Use the provided USB Type-C to Type-C cable to connect the adapter's HOST port to your computer's USB-C port.
  2. Connect Power Supply: Plug the 12V2A power adapter into the 12V power port on the SUIDEK adapter, then connect it to a power outlet. For 3.5-inch IDE HDDs, also connect the 4-pin IDE power cable from the adapter to the HDD.
  3. Connect Hard Drive(s):
    • For SATA drives: Connect your 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SATA HDD/SSD to either the SATA(B) or SATA(C) port on the adapter.
    • For IDE drives: Connect your 3.5-inch IDE HDD to the IDE(A) port on the adapter. Ensure the 4-pin IDE power cable is also connected.
  4. Turn On Power: Flip the OFF/ON master switch on the adapter to the ON position. The LED indicators will light up, and your computer should detect the connected drives.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Data Transfer

Once connected and powered on, your computer will recognize the attached hard drives as external storage devices. You can then access, transfer, and manage files as you would with any other external drive. The adapter supports simultaneous access to two drives (IDE(A) + SATA(C) or SATA(B) + SATA(C)).

Important Note:

  • IDE(A) and SATA(B) cannot be connected and read simultaneously. Use the A/B Switch button to select between IDE(A) and SATA(B) as the source drive if you need to access them individually.
  • The SATA(C) port can always be accessed concurrently with either IDE(A) or SATA(B).

5.2 Offline Clone Function

The offline clone function allows you to duplicate data from a source drive to a target drive without connecting to a computer. This is useful for creating backups or migrating data.

Prerequisites for Offline Cloning:

  • The target drive's capacity must be greater than or equal to the source drive's capacity.
  • The adapter must be connected to the DC 12V power supply.
  • The upstream USB cable (connecting to the computer) must be disconnected.
  • Offline cloning is supported only for these combinations: Source IDE(A) → Target SATA(C), or Source SATA(B) → Target SATA(C).
  • IDE hard drives are not recommended for cloning due to their older technology and potential bad sectors.

Offline Cloning Steps:

  1. Ensure the adapter is powered off.
  2. Insert the source drive (IDE(A) or SATA(B)) and the target drive (SATA(C)) into their respective ports.
  3. Ensure the USB cable to the computer is disconnected.
  4. Connect the 12V2A power adapter to the adapter and a power outlet.
  5. Press and hold the Clone button for 3 seconds until the first blue LED (25%) flashes.
  6. Briefly press the Clone button again to start the cloning process. The progress LEDs (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) will illuminate sequentially, indicating the cloning status.
  7. Once all LEDs are solid blue, the cloning process is complete.
  8. Turn off the adapter and safely remove the drives.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Drive Not Detected:
    • Ensure all cables (USB, power, IDE 4-pin power) are securely connected.
    • Verify the adapter's master switch is in the ON position.
    • For IDE(A) and SATA(B) drives, remember they cannot be accessed simultaneously. Use the A/B Switch button to select the desired source.
    • Check if the hard drive itself is functional by testing it with another enclosure or directly connecting it to a computer if possible.
    • Ensure the 12V2A power adapter is correctly connected and providing power, especially for 3.5-inch drives.
  • Offline Clone Fails or Does Not Start:
    • Confirm the USB cable to the computer is disconnected. The offline clone function requires the adapter to be standalone.
    • Verify the target drive's capacity is equal to or larger than the source drive's capacity. Check actual memory capacity in Disk Management.
    • Ensure the 12V2A power adapter is connected.
    • Double-check that the source and target drives are correctly inserted into the supported ports (IDE(A) or SATA(B) as source, SATA(C) as target).
    • If cloning an IDE drive, be aware that older IDE drives may have bad sectors which can cause cloning issues.
  • Slow Data Transfer Speed:
    • Ensure your computer's USB port supports USB 3.0 (or higher) for optimal speeds.
    • Verify that the USB Type-C cable used is rated for USB 3.0 speeds.
    • The actual speed may vary depending on the hard drive's performance and your computer's system.
  • Adapter Enters Sleep Mode Unexpectedly:
    • The adapter is designed to enter sleep mode after 30 minutes of inactivity. Accessing the drive will wake it up.
