Setup and Installation

Pre-Installation Checklist

  • Verify all components are present: water heater unit, accessory set.
  • Ensure you have 2 x 1.5V D batteries (not included) for ignition.
  • Confirm you have an LPG cylinder and appropriate gas hose/regulator (not included).
  • Select an outdoor, well-ventilated location for installation, away from flammable materials.

Installation Steps

  1. Mounting: Securely mount the water heater to a sturdy vertical surface using the upper and lower brackets. Ensure it is level. Refer to Figure 3 for bracket locations.
  2. Battery Installation: Open the battery compartment (refer to Figure 2) and insert two 1.5V D batteries, observing correct polarity.
  3. Water Connections: Connect the water intake to your cold water supply and the water outlet to your hot water distribution system. Ensure all connections are tight and leak-free. The water inlet and outlet outer diameter is 13mm (0.5").
  4. Gas Connection: Connect the LPG gas supply hose to the gas inlet (3/8" OD). Use a suitable gas regulator (not included) for your LPG cylinder. Perform a leak test on all gas connections using soapy water.
  5. Ventilation: Ensure the exhaust vent is clear and unobstructed to allow proper venting of combustion gases.

This image shows the CO-Z 8L LPG Instantaneous Water Heater installed outdoors, demonstrating a typical setup in a well-ventilated environment, suitable for camping or off-grid use.

Operating Instructions

Initial Startup

  1. Open the main gas supply valve on your LPG cylinder.
  2. Open the cold water supply valve to the water heater.
  3. Turn the power switch on (refer to Figure 2).
  4. Open a hot water tap. The water heater should automatically ignite, and hot water will begin to flow. The digital display (refer to Figure 1) will show the current water temperature.

Adjusting Water Temperature

The water temperature can be adjusted using the following controls on the front panel (refer to Figure 1):

  • Gas Regulator Knob: Adjusts the gas flow to the burner, controlling the flame intensity and thus the heat output. Turn clockwise for higher temperature, counter-clockwise for lower.
  • Water Regulator Knob: Controls the water flow rate through the heater. A lower flow rate generally results in hotter water (given constant gas input), while a higher flow rate results in cooler water.
  • Summer/Winter Mode Selector: Select "SUMMER" for reduced flame output (2 flames) during warmer months or when less heat is required. Select "WINTER" for maximum flame output (4 flames) during colder months or when higher temperatures are desired.

Shutting Down

  1. Close all hot water taps. The water heater will automatically shut off.
  2. Close the main gas supply valve on the LPG cylinder.
  3. If storing the unit or for extended periods of non-use, remove the D batteries.

Maintenance

Regular Checks

  • Gas Connections: Periodically check all gas connections for leaks using a soapy water solution.
  • Water Connections: Inspect water hoses and connections for signs of wear or leaks.
  • Exhaust Vent: Ensure the exhaust vent is free from obstructions (e.g., leaves, debris) to maintain proper ventilation.
  • Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Frost Protection: In freezing conditions, drain all water from the unit to prevent damage from ice expansion.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions

  • No Ignition / No Hot Water:
    • Check if the gas supply is open and the LPG cylinder has gas.
    • Verify batteries are correctly installed and have sufficient charge.
    • Ensure water pressure is within the specified range (0.015-0.5 bar).
    • Check if the water inlet filter is clogged.
    • Confirm a hot water tap is fully open.
  • Water Not Hot Enough:
    • Adjust the Gas Regulator knob to increase gas flow.
    • Reduce the water flow rate using the Water Regulator knob.
    • Ensure "WINTER" mode is selected if operating in cold conditions.
  • Water Too Hot:
    • Adjust the Gas Regulator knob to decrease gas flow.
    • Increase the water flow rate using the Water Regulator knob.
    • Select "SUMMER" mode if operating in warm conditions.
  • Gas Smell:
    • Immediately shut off the gas supply.
    • Ventilate the area.
    • Do not operate the unit.
    • Contact a qualified technician for inspection and repair.
