Operating Instructions
Using the Tube Cutter
- Place the tube to be cut into the tube cutter, ensuring it rests firmly against the rollers.
- Tighten the knob to bring the cutting wheel into contact with the tube.
- Rotate the cutter around the tube, applying slight pressure with each rotation until the tube is cut through.
- Use the reamer to deburr the inside and outside edges of the cut tube.
Using the Flaring Tool (Expander)
- Select the appropriate flaring die for the tube size.
- Insert the tube into the selected hole of the flaring bar, ensuring the tube extends slightly above the bar's surface (approximately 1/8 inch or 3mm).
- Securely clamp the tube in the flaring bar by tightening the wing nuts.
- Place the flaring cone of the expander tool directly over the tube opening.
- Turn the handle of the expander tool clockwise, applying steady pressure, until the tube is flared to the desired shape. Do not over-tighten.
- Unscrew the expander tool and release the tube from the flaring bar.
Using the Tube Bender
- Identify the desired bending angle and radius markings on the bender.
- Insert the tube into the appropriate groove on the bending former.
- Align the tube with the desired starting point for the bend.
- Apply steady, even pressure to the handles to gradually bend the tube to the required angle. Avoid sudden movements to prevent kinking.
- Release the pressure and remove the bent tube.
Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your tool set.
- After each use, clean all tools to remove any debris, metal shavings, or residue. Use a dry cloth or a soft brush.
- Apply a light coat of machine oil to moving parts (e.g., tube cutter wheel, flaring cone threads) to prevent rust and ensure smooth operation.
- Store the tools in their original carrying case in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
- Regularly inspect cutting wheels and flaring cones for wear and tear. Replace worn parts as necessary.
Troubleshooting
Refer to the table below for common issues and their solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Tube kinks during bending. | Incorrect tube size for bender groove, too much force applied too quickly, or tube material too soft. | Ensure correct tube size is used. Apply slow, steady pressure. Consider using a spring bender for very soft tubes. |
| Flared end is uneven or cracked. | Tube not deburred, tube not clamped securely, or over-tightening the flaring tool. | Deburr tube thoroughly. Ensure tube is clamped tightly. Apply pressure gradually and stop when flare is formed. |
| Tube cutter not cutting cleanly. | Dull cutting wheel or insufficient pressure. | Replace the cutting wheel. Apply consistent, firm pressure while rotating. |
