2. Safety Information
WARNING: Electrical shock hazard. Installation and maintenance should only be performed by qualified personnel. Disconnect all power before servicing.
- Always ensure power is disconnected at the source before beginning any work on the contactor or associated wiring.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including insulated gloves and safety glasses.
- Verify correct voltage and current ratings before installation to prevent damage to the unit or system.
- Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated.
- Do not operate the contactor if it appears damaged.
3. Product Overview
The Molloparts Contactor is a 4-pole electrical switching device designed for controlling power circuits in compatible Carrier Transicold units. It features three normally open (NO) contacts and one normally closed (NC) contact, with a coil rated for 20/24 Volts AC.

4. Installation
Installation should be performed by a qualified technician familiar with electrical systems and Carrier Transicold equipment.
- Power Disconnection: Ensure all power to the Carrier Transicold unit is completely disconnected and locked out according to safety procedures.
- Identify Mounting Location: Locate the existing contactor or designated mounting area within the control panel.
- Mounting: Securely mount the new Molloparts Contactor using appropriate fasteners. Ensure it is stable and free from vibration.
- Wiring Power Circuits: Connect the main power lines (L1, L2, L3) to the input terminals and the load lines (T1, T2, T3) to the output terminals. Refer to the Carrier Transicold wiring diagram for correct phase sequence and load connections. Ensure all connections are tight.
- Wiring Control Circuit: Connect the 20/24 Volt AC control voltage to the coil terminals. Observe polarity if specified, though AC coils are typically non-polarized.
- Auxiliary Contacts: Connect any auxiliary control wiring to the normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) auxiliary contacts as required by the system design.
- Verification: Double-check all wiring against the system's electrical schematic. Ensure no loose wires or exposed conductors.
- Power Restoration: Once all connections are verified and secure, restore power to the unit.

5. Operation
The Molloparts Contactor operates by receiving a control voltage (20/24V AC) across its coil. When the coil is energized, it creates an electromagnetic field that pulls the main contacts closed, allowing power to flow from the input (L1, L2, L3) to the output (T1, T2, T3) terminals. When the control voltage is removed, the coil de-energizes, and springs return the contacts to their open position, interrupting the power flow.
- Energizing: Apply 20/24V AC to the coil terminals to close the main contacts.
- De-energizing: Remove 20/24V AC from the coil terminals to open the main contacts.
- Auxiliary Contacts: The auxiliary contacts (3 NO, 1 NC) change state simultaneously with the main contacts, providing signals for control logic or interlocking.
6. Maintenance
Regular inspection and maintenance can help ensure the longevity and reliable operation of the contactor.
- Visual Inspection (Monthly): Check for any signs of physical damage, discoloration, or overheating on the contactor body, terminals, and wiring.
- Terminal Tightness (Annually): With power disconnected, verify that all terminal screws are tight to prevent loose connections and arcing.
- Contact Inspection (As needed): If operational issues arise, inspect the main contacts for excessive pitting or wear. This typically requires disassembly by a qualified technician.
- Cleaning: Keep the contactor free from dust and debris. Use a dry, non-conductive brush or compressed air for cleaning.
7. Troubleshooting
This section provides guidance for common issues. For complex problems, consult a qualified electrician or Carrier Transicold service technician.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Contactor does not energize (contacts do not close) | No control voltage to coil; Incorrect coil voltage; Open coil circuit; Mechanical obstruction. | Verify 20/24V AC at coil terminals; Check coil resistance; Inspect for foreign objects. |
| Contactor hums loudly | Loose laminations; Incorrect voltage; Dirt/debris on magnet faces. | Ensure proper mounting; Verify correct control voltage; Clean magnet faces (with power off). |
| Contactor contacts weld or stick | Overcurrent condition; Short circuit; Frequent cycling; Worn contacts. | Investigate and correct overcurrent source; Replace contactor if contacts are damaged. |
| Overheating | Loose connections; Overload; Incorrect voltage. | Tighten all terminals; Verify load current is within rating; Check control voltage. |
