1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the DICTROLUX Alice Express 4-in-1 Coffee Machine. This appliance is designed to provide a versatile coffee experience, compatible with Nespresso, Dolce Gusto, and A Modo Mio capsules, as well as traditional coffee pods. Please read this manual carefully before operating the machine to ensure safe and efficient use. Keep this manual for future reference.

2. Safety Instructions

  • Read all instructions before use.
  • Do not immerse the appliance, power cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.
  • This appliance is for household use only. Do not use outdoors.
  • Ensure the voltage indicated on the appliance corresponds to your local mains voltage before connecting.
  • Always unplug the machine from the power outlet before cleaning and when not in use for extended periods.
  • Do not operate the appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner.
  • Keep children away from the appliance during operation. Hot surfaces and hot water/steam can cause burns.
  • Only use cold, fresh water in the water tank. Do not use milk or other liquids.
  • Do not open the brewing chamber during operation.

4. Setup

4.1 Unpacking

  1. Carefully remove the coffee machine and all accessories from the packaging.
  2. Remove any protective films or stickers from the appliance.
  3. Ensure all components listed in the product overview are present.

4.2 Initial Cleaning

  1. Wash the water tank, drip tray, and capsule/pod adapters with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  2. Wipe the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth.

4.3 Filling the Water Tank

  1. Remove the water tank from the back of the machine.
  2. Fill the tank with fresh, cold drinking water up to the MAX level indicator.
  3. Place the water tank back onto the machine, ensuring it is securely seated.

4.4 First Use / Priming

  1. Plug the machine into a grounded power outlet.
  2. Place an empty cup on the drip tray.
  3. Press the power button. The indicator light will flash while heating up, then remain steady when ready.
  4. Without inserting any capsule or pod, press the long coffee button to run a full cycle of hot water through the system. This primes the pump and cleans the internal components.
  5. Repeat this process 2-3 times.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On

Ensure the water tank is filled and the machine is plugged in. Press the power button. The indicator light will flash during heating and become steady when the machine is ready for brewing.

5.2 Inserting Capsules/Pods

The DICTROLUX Alice Express is compatible with Nespresso, Dolce Gusto, A Modo Mio capsules, and coffee pods. Select the appropriate adapter for your chosen coffee format.

  • For Nespresso/A Modo Mio Capsules: Open the brewing chamber lever, insert the capsule into the corresponding adapter, and close the lever firmly.
  • For Dolce Gusto Capsules: Insert the Dolce Gusto adapter into the brewing chamber, then place the capsule into the adapter. Close the lever firmly.
  • For Coffee Pods (Cialde): Insert the coffee pod adapter, place the pod into the adapter, and close the lever firmly.

5.3 Brewing Coffee

  1. Place a cup on the drip tray.
  2. Ensure the machine is ready (steady indicator light).
  3. Insert your chosen capsule/pod with its adapter.
  4. Press the Short Coffee button for a smaller, concentrated espresso, or the Long Coffee button for a larger cup.
  5. The machine will automatically stop brewing when the pre-set volume is reached.

5.4 Customizing Coffee Quantity

You can customize the volume of your coffee for both short and long settings:

  1. With the machine ready and a capsule/pod inserted, press and hold either the Short or Long Coffee button.
  2. Release the button when your desired coffee volume is reached. The machine will remember this setting for future brews using that button.

5.5 Ejecting Used Capsules/Pods

After brewing, carefully open the brewing chamber lever. The used capsule or pod will drop into the internal collection bin. Close the lever.

6. Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure optimal performance and longevity of your coffee machine.

6.1 Daily Cleaning

  • Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray and grid daily.
  • Water Tank: Empty any remaining water from the tank and rinse it. Refill with fresh water before next use.
  • Capsule/Pod Bin: Empty the used capsule/pod collection bin regularly.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

6.2 Adapter Cleaning

Periodically remove and rinse the capsule/pod adapters under running water. Ensure no coffee residue is blocking the outlets.

6.3 Descaling

Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) can build up in the machine, affecting performance. Descale your machine every 2-3 months, or more frequently if you have hard water.

  • Use a descaling solution specifically designed for coffee machines. Follow the instructions on the descaling product.
  • Alternatively, for cleaning after a long period of disuse, use the provided manual pump accessory to flush the internal system with clean water.
  • After descaling, run several cycles of fresh water through the machine to rinse thoroughly before brewing coffee.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your coffee machine, refer to the following table for common problems and solutions.
