3. Installation

3.1 Safety Precautions

  • Ensure power is disconnected before installation to prevent electric shock.
  • Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician if you are unsure about electrical wiring.
  • Operate the device within the specified voltage range (AC 85-265V).

3.2 Requirements

  • A Tuya Zigbee gateway (hub) is required for smart functionality and app control.
  • Standard AC power supply (85-265V).

3.3 Mounting

The sensor is designed for ceiling mount installation, similar to a downlight.

  1. Choose a suitable location on the ceiling, ensuring it covers the desired detection area.
  2. Drill a circular opening in the ceiling with a diameter of approximately 60-65mm (2.36-2.56 inches).
  3. Connect the wiring as described in Section 3.4.
  4. Gently push the sensor into the opening. The spring-loaded clamps will secure it in place.

3.4 Wiring Diagram

The sensor can be powered directly by AC 85-265V and includes a 16A relay function for direct control of a light fixture.

Figure 3.1: Wiring Diagram and Relay Modes

  • Connect the Live (L) wire from your power source to the 'L' terminal on the sensor.
  • Connect the Neutral (N) wire from your power source to the 'N' terminal on the sensor.
  • Optional Light Connection: If using the integrated relay to control a light, connect the Live wire of the light fixture to the 'L' terminal of the sensor, and the Neutral wire of the light fixture to the 'N' terminal of the sensor. The sensor's relay will then switch the power to the light.

4. Configuration & Operation

4.1 Pairing with Zigbee Hub

To enable smart features, the sensor must be paired with a Tuya Zigbee gateway.

  1. Ensure your Tuya Zigbee gateway is powered on and connected to the Tuya Smart app.
  2. Power on the WenzhiIoT presence sensor. The indicator light should begin to flash, indicating pairing mode. If not, press and hold the Reset Button (refer to Figure 2.2) for 5-10 seconds until the indicator light flashes.
  3. Open the Tuya Smart app, navigate to your Zigbee gateway, and select 'Add sub-device' or 'Search for devices'.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the pairing process. Once successfully paired, the indicator light on the sensor will stop flashing.

4.2 App Parameter Settings

The Tuya Smart app allows for extensive customization of the sensor's behavior. Access the sensor's settings within the app to adjust parameters.

Common Parameters:

Tuya Smart app screenshot showing common parameter settings for the presence sensor, including sensitivity, departure delay, detection range, entry sensitivity, entry filter time, entry distance indentation, shield range, and block time.

Figure 4.2: App Common Parameter Settings

  • Sensitivity: Adjusts the sensor's responsiveness to motion. Higher values increase sensitivity.
  • Departure Delay: Sets the time duration after which the sensor reports 'no presence' once movement ceases.
  • Detection Range: Defines the maximum distance for presence detection.
  • Entry Sensitivity: Specific sensitivity for detecting entry into the area.
  • Entry Filter Time: Filters out brief, insignificant entry detections.
  • Entry Distance Indentation: Adjusts the effective detection boundary.
  • Shield Range: Sets a minimum distance below which detection is ignored, useful for preventing false triggers from objects too close.
  • Block Time: A period during which the sensor will not re-trigger after an initial detection, preventing rapid on/off cycles.

Control Parameters:

Figure 4.3: App Control Parameter Settings

  • Status Indication: Controls the behavior of the indicator light.
  • Sensor: Enables or disables the detection function.
  • Breaker Mode: Configures the behavior of the integrated 16A relay. See Section 4.3 for details.
  • Breaker Status: Displays the current state of the relay.
  • Breaker Polarity: Adjusts the relay's default state (normally open/closed).
  • Illuminance Threshold: Sets a light intensity level for smart scene linkage.

4.3 Relay Functionality

The sensor features a 16A relay, allowing it to directly control connected electrical loads, such as lights. Three relay modes can be set in the Tuya Smart app:

  • Standard (Cloud Linkage): The relay can be remotely controlled via the Tuya Smart app. This mode allows for manual control or integration into complex smart scenes managed by the cloud.
  • Local (Automatic): In this mode, the relay automatically turns on when presence is detected and turns off when no presence is detected (after the departure delay). This is ideal for automated lighting based on occupancy.
  • Not Support (Disable Relay): The relay function is disabled. The sensor operates solely as a presence detector, sending data to the Zigbee hub without directly controlling any connected load.

4.4 Smart Scene Linkage

Leverage the sensor's capabilities for home automation:

  • Presence-based Automation: Create scenes where lights turn on/off, alarms are triggered, or other smart devices activate/deactivate based on presence detection.
  • Illuminance Monitoring: The integrated illuminance monitor allows for smart scenes where lighting adjusts automatically based on ambient brightness. For example, lights can turn on only if presence is detected AND the ambient light level falls below the set illuminance threshold.

5. Detection Capabilities

The WenzhiIoT MmWave Radar sensor offers precise detection of various human states:

  • Human Presence: Detects the general presence of individuals within its field of view.
  • Human Static: Capable of detecting a person even when they are stationary, such as sitting or sleeping.
  • Human Micro-motion: Identifies subtle movements like breathing or slight shifts in posture.
  • Human Movement: Standard motion detection for walking or active movement.

6. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your sensor, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the sensor's surface with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the device.
  • Environment: Ensure the sensor is not exposed to excessive moisture, extreme temperatures, or direct sunlight, which can affect its operation.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the Tuya Smart app for any available firmware updates for your sensor. Updates can improve performance, add new features, or fix bugs.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your WenzhiIoT presence sensor, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Sensor not detecting presence or false detectionsIncorrect sensitivity settings, obstruction, interference, incorrect mounting height.Adjust 'Sensitivity', 'Detection Range', 'Shield Range', and 'Entry Distance Indentation' in the Tuya Smart app. Ensure no physical obstructions block the sensor's view. Verify mounting height is within recommended range.
Sensor not connecting to Zigbee hubSensor not in pairing mode, hub too far, hub offline, incorrect Zigbee channel.Ensure the sensor is in pairing mode (flashing indicator light). Move the sensor closer to the Zigbee hub. Check if the hub is online and functioning correctly. Try resetting the sensor and re-pairing.
Relay not controlling lightIncorrect wiring, 'Breaker Mode' set to 'Not Support', faulty light fixture.Verify wiring according to Figure 3.1. Check 'Breaker Mode' in the app and set it to 'Standard' or 'Local'. Test the light fixture independently.
Indicator light not working'Status Indication' disabled in app, power issue.Check 'Status Indication' setting in the Tuya Smart app. Ensure the sensor is receiving power.

7.1 Resetting the Sensor

If the sensor is unresponsive or you need to re-pair it, you can perform a factory reset:

  1. Locate the Reset Button on the sensor (refer to Figure 2.2).
  2. Using a small pin or paperclip, press and hold the Reset Button for approximately 5-10 seconds.
  3. The indicator light will flash rapidly, confirming the reset. The sensor will then enter pairing mode.
