3.2 Detection Modes

The GreenRex REX-8 offers five distinct detection modes to optimize your search for specific targets.

Image 3.2: Visual representation of the five detection modes: All Metal, Disc, Memory, Jewelry, and Pinpoint, with icons indicating their functions.
  • All Metal Mode: Detects all types of metal without discrimination. This mode is ideal for general searching when you want to find any metallic object.
  • Disc Mode: Allows you to discriminate against unwanted metals, such as iron or foil. The detector will ignore selected metal types, focusing only on desired targets.
  • Memory Mode: Detects only the specific type of metal you have previously selected and stored in memory. This is useful for repeatedly searching for a particular metal.
  • Jewelry Mode: Specifically tuned to focus on finding jewelry, eliminating common iron signals.
  • Pinpoint (PP) Mode: Used to precisely locate the exact position of a detected target before digging. Press and hold the PP button to activate.

3.3 Sensitivity Adjustment

Adjusting sensitivity is crucial for optimal performance. Higher sensitivity increases detection depth but can also lead to more false signals in mineralized ground or areas with electromagnetic interference. Lower sensitivity reduces false signals but may decrease detection depth.

  • Use the SENS +/- buttons to increase or decrease sensitivity.
  • Start with a moderate sensitivity level and adjust as needed based on ground conditions.

3.4 Detection Depth and Waterproof Coil

The GreenRex REX-8 can detect objects up to 7-10 inches deep, depending on the size and type of metal. The 10-inch IP68 waterproof search coil allows for effective use in shallow water, such as beaches and riverbanks. Note: The control box is not waterproof and must be kept dry.

4. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your metal detector.

  • Cleaning: After each use, especially in sandy or wet conditions, wipe down the search coil and stem with a damp cloth. Ensure the control box remains dry. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store the detector in a cool, dry place. If storing for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Battery Care: Always use fresh, high-quality 9V batteries. Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the LCD.
  • Cable Inspection: Regularly check the search coil cable for any signs of wear or damage. Ensure connections are secure.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your GreenRex REX-8 Metal Detector, refer to the following common problems and solutions.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No power or unit does not turn onDead or incorrectly installed batteriesReplace batteries with fresh 9V batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
Constant false signals or erratic behaviorHigh sensitivity, electromagnetic interference, or highly mineralized groundReduce sensitivity using the SENS - button. Move away from power lines, cell phones, or other electronic devices. Try a different detection mode.
Poor detection depthLow sensitivity, small target, or deeply buried objectIncrease sensitivity using the SENS + button. Ensure the search coil is parallel to the ground and swept slowly.
No audio responseVolume too low, headphones unplugged, or faulty speaker/headphonesIncrease volume using the VOL + button. Ensure headphones are securely plugged in. Test with different headphones or rely on the built-in speaker.
