5. Setup

5.1 Connecting the Propane Tank

  1. Ensure the grill is on a stable, level surface outdoors.
  2. Place a standard 20LB propane tank in the designated spot under the burners.
  3. Connect the gas hose from the grill to the propane tank valve. Hand-tighten securely.
  4. Perform a leak test: Apply a soapy water solution to all gas connections. Bubbles indicate a leak. If a leak is detected, tighten the connection or replace the part. Do not operate the grill if a leak is present.

5.2 Initial Griddle Seasoning (Before First Use)

It is crucial to season the cast iron griddle top before its first use to ensure non-stick performance and longevity. This process involves heating the griddle and applying cooking oil multiple times.

  1. Ensure the griddle plate is clean and dry.
  2. Apply a thin, even layer of high-heat cooking oil (e.g., flaxseed oil, grapeseed oil) over the entire surface of the griddle using a folded paper towel. Use tongs or heat-resistant gloves.
  3. Heat the griddle on medium-high heat until it begins to smoke and the oil burns off. This creates a stick-resistant surface.
  4. Allow the griddle to cool slightly.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 at least 3-5 times. The griddle may appear dark or discolored, which is normal and indicates proper seasoning.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Lighting the Burners

  1. Ensure the propane tank valve is fully open.
  2. Push in and turn one control knob to the HIGH position.
  3. Immediately press and hold the igniter button until the burner lights. You should hear a clicking sound.
  4. If the burner does not light within 5 seconds, turn the control knob to OFF, wait 5 minutes, and repeat the lighting procedure.
  5. Repeat for the second burner as needed.

6.2 Heat Control

The grill features two independently controlled stainless steel burners, each producing 10,000 BTU for a total of 20,000 BTU output. This allows for two distinct heat zones:

  • Hot Zone: Ideal for searing and high-heat cooking.
  • Warm Zone: Suitable for keeping food warm or cooking at lower temperatures.

Adjust the control knobs between MIN and MAX to achieve desired cooking temperatures. The adjustable knobs provide precise heat management for various foods.

6.3 Using the Griddle and Grill

This 2-in-1 combo allows you to switch between griddle and grill cooking. The cast iron griddle plate provides 171 square inches of cooking space, while the chrome-plated grates offer 191 square inches for grilling.

  • To use the griddle, place the cast iron griddle plate over the burners.
  • To use the grill, remove the griddle plate and place the chrome-plated grill grates over the burners.

The sturdy lid can be used as a wind deflector during cooking or to keep the cooking surface clean when not in use. Note that the lid is not designed to cover high foods like cheeseburgers effectively.

7. Maintenance and Care

7.1 Cleaning

  • Griddle Plate: After each use, scrape off food residue with a griddle scraper. While still warm, wipe with a paper towel. For stubborn residue, use warm, soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge, then dry thoroughly and re-season lightly.
  • Grill Grates: Clean with a grill brush after each use while the grates are still warm.
  • Grease Management: The grill features a removable oil/grease catch and a handy grease cup for hassle-free cleanup. Regularly empty and clean the grease cup to prevent overflow and maintain hygiene.
  • Exterior: Wipe down the exterior surfaces with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners.

7.2 Storage

When not in use, store the grill in a dry, protected area. Ensure the griddle plate is properly seasoned before long-term storage to prevent rust. The compact design and durable wheels allow for easy portability and storage.
