Figure 1.1: The DAJYAWON Belt and Disc Sander, featuring a combination of belt and disc sanding capabilities.

The DAJYAWON Belt and Disc Sander is a versatile 2-in-1 tool designed for various sanding, grinding, wire-drawing, and polishing tasks. It features a 4x36 inch belt sander and a 6 inch disc sander, powered by a 3.2-Amp 2/3HP induction motor. Its robust design allows for multi-angle sanding, with a belt that tilts from 0-90 degrees and a disc work table adjustable up to 45 degrees. Equipped with dual dust collection ports, it helps maintain a clean working environment.

2. Safety Instructions

WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in serious personal injury or property damage.

  • General Safety: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and a dust mask. Do not wear loose clothing, gloves, or jewelry that could get caught in moving parts.
  • Work Area: Keep the work area clean, well-lit, and free of clutter. Ensure adequate ventilation, especially when sanding wood or materials that produce fine dust.
  • Electrical Safety: Ensure the power supply matches the specifications of the sander (120 Volts AC). Do not operate the sander in damp or wet conditions. Always unplug the tool before making adjustments, changing accessories, or performing maintenance.
  • Operation: Secure the workpiece firmly before sanding. Never force the tool; allow the sander to work at its own pace. Keep hands and fingers away from the sanding belt and disc during operation.
  • Dust Collection: Always connect the sander to a dust collection system or shop vacuum to minimize airborne dust and maintain a clear view of the workpiece.
  • Maintenance: Regularly inspect the power cord for damage. Replace worn or damaged sanding belts and discs promptly.

  • Sanding Belt (0-90°): The abrasive belt used for linear sanding. Can be adjusted from horizontal to vertical.
  • Sanding Disc: The circular abrasive disc for flat and curved sanding.
  • Adjustable Work Table: Provides support for workpieces on the disc sander, adjustable up to 45 degrees.
  • Angle Adjuster (0-45°): Mechanism to set the angle of the work table for the disc sander.
  • Safety ON/OFF Switch: Controls the power to the sander.
  • Stable Base: Heavy cast aluminum base designed to minimize vibration during operation.
  • Sanding Belt Tracking: Adjustment knob to ensure the belt runs centrally on the rollers.
  • Sanding Belt Release: Lever or mechanism to loosen the belt for removal and replacement.

4. Setup and Assembly

Your DAJYAWON Belt and Disc Sander comes largely pre-assembled. Follow these steps for final setup:

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage. Retain packaging for future transport or storage.
  2. Placement: Place the sander on a stable, level workbench. The sturdy cast aluminum base with rubber feet is designed to prevent vibrations, but ensure the surface is firm.
  3. Work Table Attachment: If the work table for the disc sander is not already attached, secure it using the provided hardware. Ensure it can pivot smoothly for angle adjustments.
  4. Dust Collection Connection: Connect your household vacuum cleaner or a dedicated dust collection system to the two dust exhaust ports. The disc sander has a 3/4" port, and the belt sander has a 1-1/2" port. Proper dust collection is crucial for safety and machine longevity.
  5. Power Connection: Before plugging in, ensure the ON/OFF switch is in the "OFF" position. Connect the power cord to a standard 120V AC outlet.

5. Operating Instructions

This section details how to operate both the belt and disc sanding functions of your machine.

5.1. Belt Sander Operation

  1. Belt Adjustment: The sanding belt can be tilted from 0 to 90 degrees (horizontal to vertical). Loosen the locking mechanism, adjust the belt to the desired angle, and then securely tighten the lock.
  2. Belt Tracking: Before starting, ensure the belt is centered on the rollers. If it drifts, adjust the belt tracking knob until the belt runs true.
  3. Sanding: Turn on the sander using the ON switch. Apply the workpiece gently to the moving belt. Use even pressure and move the workpiece consistently across the belt for uniform sanding.

5.2. Disc Sander Operation

  1. Work Table Angle: The disc sander's work table can be adjusted up to 45 degrees. Loosen the angle adjuster, set the desired angle using the miter gauge, and tighten the adjuster.
  2. Sanding: Turn on the sander. Place the workpiece on the work table and gently bring it into contact with the rotating disc. Always sand on the downward-rotating side of the disc to prevent the workpiece from being thrown.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your sander.

  • Cleaning: After each use, disconnect the power and clean the sander. Remove dust and debris from the motor vents, belt, and disc areas. Use compressed air if available.
  • Dust Collection Ports: Regularly empty your dust collection system and ensure the sander's dust ports are clear of blockages. This is critical for efficient dust removal and to prevent motor overheating.
  • Belt and Disc Replacement:
    • Belt: To replace the sanding belt, release the belt tension using the belt release lever. Slide off the old belt and slide on the new one, ensuring the directional arrow on the belt matches the rotation direction of the sander. Re-tension the belt and adjust tracking.
    • Disc: To replace the sanding disc, peel off the old adhesive-backed disc. Clean the disc plate thoroughly before applying a new adhesive-backed disc, ensuring it is centered.
  • Motor Inspection: Periodically check the motor for excessive heat or unusual noises. Ensure the motor vents are unobstructed.
  • Cord Inspection: Inspect the power cord for cuts, abrasions, or damage before each use. Do not use the sander if the cord is damaged.
