Setup
1. Unboxing and Initial Inspection
Upon receiving your watch, carefully unbox it and inspect for any visible damage. The package should contain the Zeppelin Atlantic Series Automatic Watch 8460, a Zeppelin box, Zeppelin operating instructions, and a Zeppelin service card.
2. Initial Winding
Your automatic watch is powered by the motion of your wrist. However, for the first use or after a period of inactivity, it is recommended to manually wind the watch. To do this:
- Ensure the crown is in position 1 (fully pushed in, against the case).
- Turn the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will build up an initial power reserve.
The watch will then continue to wind itself through your daily wrist movements.
3. Setting Time and Date

Image: Close-up view of the Zeppelin Atlantic Series Automatic Watch dial and crown, showing the date window at 3 o'clock.
To set the time and date:
- Setting the Date: Pull the crown out to position 2 (first click). Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement. If the current time falls within this range, first adjust the time outside this range, set the date, then reset the time.
- Setting the Time: Pull the crown out to position 3 (second click). The second hand will stop. Turn the crown to set the hour and minute hands. To ensure correct AM/PM, advance the time until the date changes, then set the correct time.
- Once set, push the crown back into position 1 (fully pushed in) to start the watch and ensure water resistance.
4. Adjusting the Leather Strap
The watch features a handmade crocodile-look leather strap with a stainless steel pin buckle. To adjust the strap, simply thread the strap through the buckle and secure it in the desired hole for a comfortable fit. Ensure the strap is not too tight to allow for proper blood circulation and not too loose to prevent excessive movement on the wrist, which can affect automatic winding efficiency.
Operating Your Watch
Automatic Movement (Calibre 8315)

Image: Rear view of the Zeppelin Atlantic Series Automatic Watch, showing the transparent case back revealing the mechanical automatic movement.
The Zeppelin Atlantic Series 8460 is equipped with a mechanical automatic movement (Calibre 8315) with 21 jewels. This movement is self-winding, meaning it harnesses the kinetic energy from your wrist movements to power the watch. When worn regularly, the watch will maintain its power reserve. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it will stop. You can restart it by manually winding it as described in the "Initial Winding" section or by wearing it for several hours.
The dial indicates a power reserve of "60h", meaning the watch can run for approximately 60 hours when fully wound and not worn.
Water Resistance (5 ATM)
Your watch is water-protected to 5 ATM (50 meters), tested according to DIN standard 8310. This rating means the watch is suitable for everyday use and can withstand splashes, rain, and brief immersion in water (e.g., washing hands). It is not suitable for swimming, showering, diving, or any water sports where the watch might be subjected to significant water pressure or prolonged immersion. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in to maintain water resistance.
Maintenance
Cleaning Your Watch
- Case and Crystal: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe the stainless steel casing and mineral glass. For stubborn marks, slightly dampen the cloth with water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Leather Strap: Leather straps should be cleaned with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth. Avoid excessive moisture, direct sunlight, and harsh cleaning agents, as these can damage the leather. Allow the strap to air dry completely if it gets wet.
Storage
When not wearing your watch, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and strong magnetic fields. The original Zeppelin box is ideal for storage. If storing for an extended period, consider a watch winder to keep the automatic movement running and lubricated, though manual winding before wearing is also sufficient.
Professional Service
Like all mechanical timepieces, your Zeppelin watch requires periodic professional servicing to ensure optimal performance and longevity. It is recommended to have your watch serviced by an authorized Zeppelin service center every 3-5 years. This service typically includes cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of the movement, as well as checking seals for water resistance.
Troubleshooting
- Watch Not Running or Stops Frequently:
Possible Cause: Insufficient power reserve. Automatic watches require regular wear or manual winding to operate.
Solution: Manually wind the watch by turning the crown clockwise 20-30 times (crown in position 1). Wear the watch daily for at least 8-10 hours. If the issue persists after proper winding and wear, professional service may be required. - Date Changes at Noon Instead of Midnight:
Possible Cause: The watch's internal 24-hour cycle is misaligned with the actual time.
Solution: Pull the crown to position 3 (time setting). Advance the hour hand by 12 hours. The date should now change around midnight. Reset the correct time. - Condensation Under the Crystal:
Possible Cause: Moisture has entered the watch case, possibly due to a compromised seal or extreme temperature changes.
Solution: This requires immediate attention to prevent damage to the movement. Take the watch to an authorized service center as soon as possible. Do not attempt to dry it yourself.
