Control Unit Features:
- LCD Display: Provides clear visual feedback on target identification, depth, battery status, and mode settings. Features a backlight for use in various lighting conditions.
- Gain Control: Adjusts the detector's sensitivity to optimize performance in different ground conditions.
- GG/Pinpoint Button: Narrows down the target location for precise recovery.
- Ground Balance Control: Compensates for ground mineralization to reduce false signals. Range from 0 to 99.9.
- Threshold Control: Adjusts the background hum level.
- Mode Selection: Allows switching between Coin Treasure (Discrimination) and Prospecting (All Metal) modes.
- Earphone Jack: For connecting headphones (not included) for private listening and clearer target signals.
Assembly and Setup
- Attach the Search Coil: Secure the waterproof search coil to the lower stem using the provided bolt and washers. Ensure it is firmly tightened but do not overtighten.
- Connect the Stems: Insert the fibre connecting rod into the aluminium connecting rod, then connect the assembled stem to the control unit. Adjust the length of the stem to a comfortable operating height (42 to 52 inches).
- Install the Armrest: Attach the armrest to the upper part of the stem, ensuring the soft handle is positioned for a comfortable grip.
- Insert Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the control unit. Insert one 9V battery (not included), ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.
- Coil Cable Connection: Carefully wrap the search coil cable around the stem and plug the connector into the corresponding port on the control unit. Ensure the connection is secure to prevent interference.
Operating Instructions
Powering On and Basic Operation:
- Power On: Press the Power button on the control unit. The LCD display will illuminate.
- Volume Adjustment: Adjust the volume to a comfortable level using the dedicated control.
- Headphones: For optimal sound and privacy, plug headphones into the audio jack.
Detection Modes:
The GT800-1 offers two primary detection modes:
- Coin Treasure Mode (Discrimination): This mode is ideal for detecting common items like coins, jewelry, and relics while discriminating against unwanted metals (e.g., iron). Use the DISC level control to adjust the discrimination threshold.
- Prospecting Mode (All Metal): This mode detects all types of metal, offering maximum depth and sensitivity. It is particularly useful for finding gold nuggets and cultural relics. In this mode, adjust the Ground Balance for optimal performance.

Figure 3: The GT800-1 is effective for detecting various underground metals.
Adjustments for Optimal Performance:
- Gain: Start with a moderate gain setting. Increase it for more depth, but reduce it if you experience excessive false signals.
- Ground Balance: In All Metal mode, perform a ground balance procedure to match the detector to the soil conditions. Refer to the on-screen instructions for specific steps.
- Discrimination (DISC): In Coin Treasure mode, adjust the discrimination level to filter out unwanted metals. Higher DISC settings will ignore more types of metal.
- Threshold: Set the threshold to a barely audible hum. This allows you to hear faint target signals more easily.
Pinpointing a Target:
Once a target is detected, press the GG/Pinpoint button. Move the search coil slowly over the target area. The detector will provide a more precise indication of the target's exact location, often with a visual indicator on the LCD and a distinct audio tone.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the detector with a damp cloth after each use. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Search Coil: The search coil is waterproof. It can be submerged in water, but ensure the control unit is kept dry. Clean the coil thoroughly if used in saltwater.
- Storage: Store the detector in a dry, cool place when not in use. Remove batteries if storing for extended periods to prevent leakage.
- Battery Replacement: Replace the 9V battery when the low battery indicator appears on the LCD.

Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power | Dead or incorrectly installed battery | Replace battery with a fresh 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity. |
| Constant false signals / Chatter | High sensitivity (Gain), poor ground balance, electromagnetic interference | Reduce Gain. Perform ground balance. Move away from power lines or other electronic devices. |
| Detector not finding targets | Low sensitivity (Gain), incorrect mode, deep target | Increase Gain. Ensure correct mode (e.g., All Metal for maximum depth). Sweep slower. |
| LCD display is dim | Low battery | Replace the 9V battery. |
