5. Setup and Installation

This section outlines the general steps for installing the pressure switch. Specific compressor models may vary, so always refer to your compressor's manual for detailed instructions.

5.1 Before Installation

  1. Disconnect Power: Ensure the air compressor is unplugged from its power source.
  2. Depressurize Tank: Fully drain all air pressure from the compressor tank.
  3. Gather Tools: You will need wrenches, thread sealant (PTFE tape), and wire strippers/crimpers.

5.2 Installation Steps

  1. Remove Old Switch (if applicable): Carefully disconnect wiring and unscrew the old pressure switch from the compressor manifold. Note the orientation and connections.
  2. Prepare New Switch: Apply thread sealant (PTFE tape) to the male threads of the new FBANG pressure switch. Ensure adequate coverage to prevent leaks.
  3. Mount Switch: Screw the new pressure switch onto the compressor manifold. Tighten securely but do not overtighten, as this can damage the threads or the switch body.
  4. Connect Air Lines/Accessories: Connect any auxiliary air lines, gauges, or regulators to the available 1/4-inch ports on the 4-way manifold. Apply thread sealant to all connections.
  5. Wire Connections: Connect the electrical wires from the compressor motor to the appropriate terminals on the pressure switch. Refer to the wiring diagram (if provided with your compressor) or match the connections from the old switch. Ensure all connections are secure and insulated.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Initial Start-up

  1. After installation, ensure all connections are secure and there are no loose wires.
  2. Plug the air compressor into a suitable power outlet.
  3. Locate the red on/off lever on the pressure switch. Push the lever to the 'AUTO' position to enable automatic operation.
  4. The compressor should start and build pressure until it reaches the cut-out pressure (approximately 125 PSI), then automatically shut off.
  5. As air is used and the pressure drops to the cut-in pressure (approximately 95 PSI), the compressor will automatically restart.

6.2 Manual Operation

To manually turn off the compressor, push the red lever to the 'OFF' position. This will stop the compressor motor regardless of the tank pressure. To restart, move the lever back to 'AUTO'.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and proper functioning of your pressure switch and air compressor system.

  • Check for Leaks: Periodically check all air connections for leaks using soapy water. Bubbles indicate a leak that needs to be sealed.
  • Inspect Wiring: Ensure all electrical connections remain tight and free from corrosion.
  • Clean Switch: Keep the exterior of the pressure switch clean and free of dust and debris. Do not use harsh chemicals.
  • Drain Tank: Regularly drain moisture from the air compressor tank to prevent rust and ensure clean air delivery.

8. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your pressure switch.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Compressor does not startNo power; Pressure switch in 'OFF' position; Faulty wiring; Motor overload.Check power supply; Move lever to 'AUTO'; Inspect wiring connections; Reset motor overload.
Compressor runs continuously / Does not shut offAir leak in system; Pressure switch malfunction; Pressure setting too high.Check for and seal air leaks; Replace pressure switch if faulty; Verify pressure setting is within range.
Air leaks from switch connectionsInsufficient thread sealant; Loose connections; Damaged threads.Reapply thread sealant (PTFE tape) and retighten connections; Inspect threads for damage.
Pressure switch trips too early/lateIncorrect pressure adjustment; Internal switch issue. This model has a fixed pressure range (95-125 PSI). If it's consistently outside this range, the switch may need replacement.
