4. Setup and Installation
Assembly is required for this product. It is recommended that two people perform the installation. Ensure you have the necessary tools (e.g., drill, level, measuring tape, wrench) before starting.
- Choose Location: Select a suitable wall or surface that can support the weight of the awning and withstand operational forces. The surface must be flat and structurally sound.
- Mark Mounting Points: Using a level and measuring tape, mark the precise locations for the mounting brackets on your chosen surface. Refer to the detailed diagram in the separate safety information PDF for exact measurements.
- Drill Pilot Holes: Drill pilot holes at the marked locations. Use appropriate drill bits for your wall material (e.g., masonry, wood).
- Attach Mounting Brackets: Securely fasten the mounting brackets to the wall using the provided hardware. Ensure they are level and firmly attached.
- Assemble Frame: Follow the assembly instructions for the aluminum frame, ensuring all joints are tight and secure.
- Mount Awning to Brackets: Carefully lift the assembled awning frame and attach it to the installed mounting brackets. Secure it with the appropriate fasteners.
- Attach Fabric: Slide the awning fabric into the designated channels on the frame. Ensure it is evenly distributed and taut.
- Install Crank Mechanism: Attach the crank handle mechanism as shown in the diagrams.

5. Operating Instructions
Your vidaXL awning is manually operated using a crank handle. The angle and height can be adjusted to suit your needs.
- To Extend the Awning: Insert the crank handle into the designated loop or hook on the awning mechanism. Turn the handle clockwise to extend the awning smoothly. Continue turning until the desired extension is reached. Do not over-extend.
- To Retract the Awning: Turn the crank handle counter-clockwise to retract the awning. Ensure the fabric is retracting evenly and without obstruction. Retract fully when not in use or during strong winds.
- Adjusting Angle/Height: The awning's pitch or angle can be adjusted. Refer to the specific adjustment points on the frame (usually bolts or knobs on the arm joints) and loosen them to set the desired angle, then tighten securely.

6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance will prolong the life and appearance of your awning.
- Cleaning Fabric: Clean the awning fabric regularly with mild soap and water. Use a soft brush or sponge. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to air dry completely before retracting. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Cleaning Frame: Wipe the aluminum frame with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris.
- Lubrication: Periodically lubricate moving parts of the mechanism with a silicone-based spray to ensure smooth operation.
- Inspection: Regularly check all bolts, screws, and connections for tightness. Re-tighten if necessary. Inspect the fabric for tears or fraying.
- Winter Storage: In regions with harsh winters, it is advisable to fully retract the awning and, if possible, cover it to protect it from snow and ice accumulation.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Awning does not extend/retract smoothly | Mechanism is dry or obstructed; fabric is misaligned. | Lubricate moving parts. Check for obstructions. Ensure fabric is correctly aligned in channels. |
| Awning sags in the middle | Arms are not properly tensioned or adjusted. | Adjust the tension of the arms according to installation instructions. Ensure proper pitch. |
| Water pooling on fabric | Insufficient pitch/angle. | Increase the angle of the awning to allow for better water runoff. |
| Awning is unstable after installation | Mounting hardware loose; unsuitable mounting surface. | Check and re-tighten all mounting hardware. Ensure the mounting surface is structurally sound. Consult a professional if needed. |
