1. Important Safety Instructions

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

  • Read all instructions before operating the toaster.

  • Oversize foods, metal foil packages, or utensils must not be inserted in a toaster as they may create a fire or risk of electric shock.
  • A fire may occur if toasters are covered or touching flammable material, including curtains, draperies, walls, and the like, when in operation.
  • Do not attempt to dislodge food when toaster is plugged in.
  • Always unplug the toaster from the outlet before attempting to remove food.
  • The crumb tray must be in place during operation.

3. Setup

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove the toaster and all packaging materials from the box.
  2. Placement: Place the toaster on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface, away from flammable materials such as curtains or walls. Ensure there is adequate ventilation around the toaster.
  3. Initial Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the toaster with a damp cloth. Ensure the crumb tray is empty and properly inserted.
  4. First Use (Burn-off): Before first use, operate the toaster without bread on the highest browning setting (Level 6) for one cycle. This will burn off any manufacturing residues and odors. A slight smoke or odor is normal during this initial use. Ensure the area is well-ventilated.
  5. Plug In: Insert the power plug into a standard 120V AC electrical outlet.

4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for optimal toasting results.

4.1 Basic Toasting

  1. Insert Bread: Place one slice of bread into each toasting slot. The extra-wide slots accommodate various bread types and thicknesses.
  2. Lower Lever: Push the toast lever down until it locks into place. The digital display will illuminate, showing a default toasting time.
  3. Select Browning Level: Use the touch-sensitive browning level buttons (1-6) on the control panel to select your desired shade. The digital display will adjust the time accordingly. Refer to the browning guide below for reference.

  4. Toasting Cycle: The toaster will begin toasting, and the digital display will count down the remaining time.
  5. Ejection: Once the cycle is complete, the toast will automatically pop up, and the lever will return to its original position.

4.2 Special Functions

Your Keenstone toaster includes specialized functions for different needs:

  • Bagel Function: Press the Bagel button after lowering the lever. This function toasts the cut side of the bagel while gently warming the outer side.
  • Defrost Function: Press the Defrost button after lowering the lever. This function is ideal for frozen bread, adding extra time to thaw before toasting to your selected browning level.
  • Reheat Function: Press the Reheat button after lowering the lever. This function warms already toasted bread without further browning.
  • Cancel Function: Press the Cancel button at any time to stop the toasting cycle and immediately eject the bread.

5. Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and longevity of your toaster.

  1. Unplug: Always unplug the toaster from the power outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal scouring pads, as they may scratch the stainless steel finish.
  3. Crumb Tray Cleaning:
    • Locate the removable crumb tray at the bottom of the toaster.
    • Pull out the crumb tray to remove it.
    • Discard accumulated crumbs.
    • Wipe the tray with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly before reinserting.
    • Ensure the crumb tray is fully pushed back into place before using the toaster.
  4. Internal Cleaning: Do not attempt to clean inside the toaster with any sharp objects or metal utensils. If food becomes lodged, unplug the toaster and carefully remove the food after it has cooled.
  5. Storage: When not in use, store the toaster in a clean, dry place.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your toaster, refer to the following common problems and solutions.
