1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient use of your SEGUMA Portable Level 1/2 EV Charger. This charger is designed for Tesla vehicles equipped with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector, offering flexible charging solutions at home or on the go.

Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the charger and retain it for future reference.

2. Safety Information

  • Electrical Safety: Always ensure the power outlet is properly grounded and rated for the charger's specifications. Do not use damaged cables or adapters.
  • Environmental Conditions: Avoid exposing the charger to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight for prolonged periods, or heavy rain. The charger is IP66 waterproof, but proper care extends its lifespan.
  • Installation: For Level 2 charging (NEMA 6-20), consider installing a dedicated home circuit breaker for enhanced safety, as recommended.
  • Children and Pets: Keep the charger and cables out of reach of children and pets during operation.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation around the charging unit during operation to prevent overheating.
  • Emergency Disconnect: In case of an emergency, immediately disconnect the charger from the power source and the vehicle.

4. Setup and Connection

The SEGUMA charger supports both Level 1 and Level 2 charging:

  • Level 1 Charging (120V, 12A): Use the included NEMA 5-15 adapter to connect the charger to a standard 120V household outlet. This provides approximately 3-5 miles of range per hour.
  • Level 2 Charging (240V, 16A): Connect the charger directly to a NEMA 6-20 outlet. This provides approximately 9-12 miles of range per hour.

Important Note:

This charger is not compatible with dryer plugs such as NEMA 10-30 and NEMA 14-30 outlets. Attempting to use it with incompatible outlets may cause damage or safety hazards.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Connecting to Your Tesla Vehicle

  1. Ensure the charger is securely plugged into the appropriate power outlet (NEMA 5-15 with adapter or NEMA 6-20).
  2. Locate the charging port on your Tesla vehicle.
  3. Press the button on the charger's NACS connector to wirelessly open the charging port door on your Tesla.
  4. Insert the NACS connector firmly into the vehicle's charging port until it clicks into place. Charging will begin automatically.

5.2 Monitoring Charging Status (LED Indicators)

5.3 Disconnecting the Charger

  1. Ensure charging has stopped (indicated by the LED).
  2. Press and hold the button on the NACS connector handle to release the latch.
  3. Gently pull the connector from the vehicle's charge port.
  4. Disconnect the charger from the power outlet.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the charger and cables with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Ensure the charger is unplugged before cleaning.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the charger in the provided carrying bag in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid coiling the cable too tightly.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the cable, plugs, and charger unit for any signs of damage, wear, or corrosion. If any damage is found, discontinue use and contact customer support.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your charger, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Charger Not Activating:
    • Ensure the charger is securely plugged into the wall outlet.
    • Verify the wall outlet is functional by testing it with another device.
    • Check for any tripped circuit breakers in your home's electrical panel.
  • Charging Port Door Not Opening:
    • Ensure the charger is powered on and within range of the vehicle.
    • Press the button on the NACS connector firmly.
  • Slow Charging Speed:
    • Confirm you are using the correct outlet type for desired speed (NEMA 6-20 for Level 2, NEMA 5-15 for Level 1).
    • Charging speed is dependent on the power source (120V vs. 240V). Level 1 charging is inherently slower.
  • Red LED Indicator (Fault):
    • Disconnect the charger from both the vehicle and the power source.
    • Inspect the cable and connectors for any visible damage.
    • Reconnect the charger. If the fault persists, contact customer support.
