3. Safety Information and Important Notes
- This stud finder is designed for use on dry interior walls only.
- Freshly painted walls may require one week or longer to dry completely before accurate scanning can be performed.
- Sensing depth and accuracy can vary due to factors such as moisture content of materials, wall texture, and paint thickness.
- This device is not designed to scan materials such as ceramic floor tile, carpeting and padding, lath and plaster walls, foil-covered insulation board, glass, or any other dense material.
- Always exercise caution when drilling or cutting into walls. The AC Mode helps detect live wires, but it is crucial to verify findings and proceed with care to avoid electrical hazards.

4. Setup
4.1. Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the HW-QB6 unit.
- Slide open the battery cover.
- Insert a 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery cover securely.

4.2. Powering On
Press the On-Off/Stud Mode button (red button with power symbol) to turn on the device. The LCD will illuminate, and the device will typically default to the last used mode or a standard stud scan mode.
5. Operation
5.1. Understanding the Display
The LCD provides crucial information during scanning. Refer to the diagram below for an explanation of each indicator:

Figure 6: Detailed breakdown of the HW-QB6 LCD display, showing indicators for battery, scan modes, signal strength, center indication, AC warning, metal depth, and magnetic/non-magnetic metal detection.
- Low Battery Icon: Indicates when the battery needs replacement.
- Signal Bar: Shows the strength of the detected signal, increasing as you approach the target.
- Center Indication: An icon and text (CENTER) appear when the device is directly over the center of a stud or object.
- Arrow Direction: Guides you towards the center of the detected object.
- Scan Mode Icons: Indicate the currently selected stud scan mode (1/2", 1", 1 1/2").
- AC Warning Icon: Flashes when live AC wires are detected.
- Metal Depth Indication: Displays the approximate depth of detected metal.
- Magnetic & Non-Magnetic Icon: Differentiates between types of metal detected.
5.2. Selecting a Mode
- Stud Mode: Press the "On-Off/Stud Mode" button (red button) to cycle through the 1/2", 1", and 1 1/2" stud scan depths. If unsure of wall thickness, start with 1/2" scan mode. If no detection, proceed to 1" or 1 1/2" scan mode.
- Metal Mode: Press the "Metal Mode" button (button with metal icon) to activate metal detection.
- AC Mode: Press the "AC Mode" button (button labeled AC) to activate live AC wire detection.
5.3. Scanning Procedure
- Placement: Place the device flat against the wall where you wish to scan. Ensure the entire scanning surface is in contact with the wall.
- Calibration (Automatic): The device typically calibrates automatically upon placement. Hold it steady for a few seconds until the display stabilizes.
- Scanning: Slowly slide the device horizontally across the wall. Maintain firm, even pressure. Do not lift the device from the wall during scanning.
- Detection: As the device approaches a stud or object, the signal bars will increase, and arrows will guide you. The "CENTER" indicator will appear when the device is directly over the center of the object.
- Marking: Once the center is found, mark the location on the wall. For greater accuracy, scan the area from both left and right directions and mark both edges to define the width of the object.

6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the HW-QB6 in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Battery: Remove the battery if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage and damage.
7. Troubleshooting
- Inaccurate Readings:
- Ensure the wall surface is dry and free from excessive moisture.
- Verify that the device is held flat against the wall and moved slowly and evenly.
- Check for wall textures or paint that might interfere with scanning.
- Recalibrate by lifting the device and placing it back on the wall in a different spot.
- No Detection:
- Confirm the correct mode is selected for the target material (stud, metal, AC).
- For studs, try different scan depths (1/2", 1", 1 1/2").
- Check battery level; replace if the low voltage indicator is on.
- Ensure the wall material is not one of the unsupported types (e.g., lath and plaster, ceramic tile).
- Low Battery Indicator: Replace the 9V battery immediately to ensure optimal performance.
