INUUXLG 70mm Astronomical Telescope Model 70040 User Manual

Comprehensive instructions for assembly, operation, and maintenance.

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the INUUXLG 70mm Astronomical Telescope Model 70040. This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper assembly, operation, and care of your new telescope. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the telescope to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

This telescope is designed for observing celestial objects such as the Moon, planets, and brighter deep-sky objects, as well as terrestrial viewing. Its 70mm objective lens and 400mm focal length provide clear and magnified views.

2. Product Components

Before assembly, ensure all components listed below are present. Refer to the diagram for visual identification.

  • Objective Lens: The main lens that gathers light. (70mm diameter)
  • Body Tube: The main housing of the telescope.
  • Finderscope: A small telescope used for locating objects before viewing them through the main telescope. (5x24)
  • Eyepiece: The lens through which you view the magnified image. (20mm, 6mm)
  • Zenith Mirror (Diagonal): Redirects the light path for comfortable viewing, especially for objects high in the sky. (90° Erect Image Mirror)
  • Focusing Knob: Used to adjust the clarity of the image.
  • Tripod PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) / Mount: The head of the tripod that allows movement of the telescope.
  • Level Locking Knob: Secures the telescope's position on the mount.
  • Aluminum Tripod: Provides a stable base for the telescope.
  • Barov Teleconverter: 1.5X and 3X magnification boosters.

The focusing wheel is ergonomically designed for comfortable and precise adjustment. The aluminum tripod provides a stable platform with fine-tuning functions, suitable for beginners.

3. Assembly and Setup

Follow these steps to assemble your telescope:

  1. Set up the Tripod:

Extend the legs of the aluminum tripod to a stable height. Ensure the tripod is placed on a level surface. The tripod can be adjusted from a folded height of approximately 40cm to an extended height of 148cm.

  2. Attach the Telescope Tube:

Mount the main telescope body tube onto the tripod's PTZ head. Secure it firmly using the level locking knob or mounting screws provided.

  3. Install the Finderscope:

Attach the finderscope to its designated bracket on the main telescope tube. Align the finderscope with the main telescope by pointing both at a distant, stationary object during daylight hours. Adjust the finderscope's alignment screws until the object is centered in both the finderscope and the main telescope's eyepiece.

  4. Insert the Zenith Mirror:

Insert the 90° erect image zenith mirror into the focuser of the main telescope. Secure it with the small thumbscrew.

  5. Insert an Eyepiece:

Choose an eyepiece (e.g., 20mm for lower magnification, 6mm for higher magnification) and insert it into the zenith mirror. Secure it with the thumbscrew. For initial viewing, start with the lowest magnification eyepiece (20mm) for a wider field of view.

  6. Optional: Barov Teleconverter:

To increase magnification, insert the 1.5X or 3X Barov teleconverter into the focuser before inserting the eyepiece. This will multiply the eyepiece's magnification.

4. Operating Instructions

Once assembled, follow these steps for observation:

  1. Locating an Object:

Use the finderscope to locate the desired object. Look through the finderscope and move the telescope until the object is centered in the finderscope's crosshairs. The finderscope provides a wider field of view, making it easier to find objects.

  2. Viewing through the Main Telescope:

Once the object is centered in the finderscope, look through the main telescope's eyepiece. The object should now be visible within the field of view.

  3. Focusing:

Slowly turn the focusing knob until the image appears sharp and clear. Adjustments may be needed as objects move or as your eyes adapt.

  4. Adjusting Magnification:

To change magnification, swap eyepieces or use a Barov teleconverter. Remember that higher magnification results in a dimmer image and a narrower field of view, making it more challenging to track objects.

  5. Tracking Objects:

Due to Earth's rotation, celestial objects will appear to drift across the field of view. Gently adjust the telescope using the angle adjustable handle on the tripod to keep the object centered.

The INUUXLG 70mm telescope is versatile and can be used for various observations:

5. Care and Maintenance

Proper care will ensure your telescope remains in excellent condition for years:

  • Cleaning Lenses:

Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove dust from the objective lens and eyepieces. For smudges, use a specialized optical cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth. Never touch optical surfaces with your fingers.

  • Storage:

Store the telescope in a dry, dust-free environment. Use the original packaging or a dedicated telescope bag/case to protect it from impacts and dust. Keep dust caps on the objective lens and eyepieces when not in use.

  • Handling:

Always handle the telescope carefully. Avoid sudden movements or dropping it, as this can affect optical alignment.

  • Environmental Protection:

Do not expose the telescope to extreme temperatures or humidity. Avoid direct sunlight exposure for prolonged periods, especially without proper filters, as this can damage the optics and internal components.

6. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Image is blurry or out of focus.Incorrect focus setting.Adjust the focusing knob slowly until the image is sharp.
Cannot find objects.Finderscope not aligned; using too high magnification initially.Align the finderscope with the main telescope. Start with the lowest magnification eyepiece (20mm).
Image is dim.High magnification eyepiece in use; light pollution; atmospheric conditions.Use a lower magnification eyepiece. Observe from a dark location. Wait for clearer atmospheric conditions.
Image appears upside down or reversed. This is normal for astronomical telescopes without an erecting prism. The 90° erect image mirror should provide a correctly oriented image for terrestrial viewing. For astronomical viewing, an inverted image is common and does not affect observation. Ensure the 90° erect image mirror is correctly installed for terrestrial viewing.
