2. Setup and Installation

2.1 Package Contents

Your package should include:

  • 1 SBS50 Base Station
  • 3 XS0B-MR Smoke Detectors
  • Mounting accessories (screws, anchors)
  • User Manual

2.2 Initial Pairing

It is recommended to pair the smoke detectors with the base station before mounting them. Place the smoke detectors near the base station during the pairing process for quicker connection.

  1. Download the X-Sense Home Security App from your device's app store.
  2. Follow the in-app instructions to set up the SBS50 Base Station and connect it to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
  3. Add each XS0B-MR Smoke Detector to the system via the app. The app will guide you through the pairing process.
  4. Assign a specific location name (e.g., 'Living Room', 'Bedroom 1') to each smoke detector within the app. This enables the voice alert feature to specify the location of smoke detection.

2.3 Mounting Location Guidelines

Proper placement is crucial for effective smoke detection and to minimize false alarms.

  • Install smoke detectors at least 10 feet (3 meters) away from cooking equipment to prevent false alarms from cooking fumes.
  • Avoid placing detectors near windows, doors, or ventilation ducts, as drafts can interfere with smoke reaching the sensor.
  • Mount detectors on ceilings or high on walls, following local building codes and safety regulations.
  • Ensure the base station is centrally located to maximize the 1,700 ft (500 m) open-air connection range for all interconnected devices.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Voice Alerts with Location

When smoke is detected, the alarm will emit a loud siren and a clear voice alert specifying the location of the smoke, such as, "Warning! Smoke detected in Dining Room! Evacuate!" This feature helps quickly identify the danger source.

3.2 Interconnected Alarms

The SBS50 Base Station allows all interconnected alarms to sound simultaneously when one detects smoke. This ensures that everyone in your home is alerted, regardless of their location, with sounds up to 100 dB.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Battery Replacement

Each XS0B-MR Smoke Detector is powered by a built-in, replaceable CR123A battery designed to last up to 5 years. The device will provide voice notifications for low battery status. Replace the battery promptly when indicated.

4.2 Sensor Lifespan

The photoelectric sensor in the smoke detector has a durable 10-year lifespan. After 10 years from the manufacturing date, the entire smoke detector unit should be replaced to ensure continued reliable protection.

4.3 Cleaning

Regular cleaning helps maintain optimal performance. Gently vacuum the exterior of the smoke detector and base station monthly to remove dust and debris. Do not use cleaning solvents or wet cloths on the devices.

5. Troubleshooting

  • False Alarms: Ensure the smoke detector is installed at least 10 feet (3 meters) away from cooking appliances. Avoid placement near high humidity areas or strong air currents.
  • Connectivity Issues: Verify that your Wi-Fi network is 2.4 GHz. The system is not compatible with 5.0 GHz networks. Ensure the base station is within range of your Wi-Fi router and all detectors are within range of the base station.
  • Low Battery Alerts: Replace the CR123A battery in the smoke detector as soon as a low battery voice alert is issued.
  • Malfunctions: The device provides voice messages for various malfunctions. Refer to the X-Sense Home Security App for detailed status and troubleshooting steps. If issues persist, contact X-Sense support.
