5.2 Measurement Procedure
- Remove the protective cap from the probe.
- Clean the probe with purified water and gently dry it with a paper towel.
- Immerse the electrode into the solution to be tested. Ensure the solution level is above the immersion line.
- Gently stir the solution and wait for the reading to stabilize.
- Press the "HOLD/TEMP" button to lock the reading if needed.
- After use, clean the electrode with purified water, turn off the meter, and replace the protective cap.

6. Calibration
Regular calibration ensures the accuracy of your YINMIK YK-5 meter. The meter supports both pH and EC/TDS/Salinity calibration.
6.1 pH Calibration
The YK-5 meter supports 3-point pH calibration (pH 4.00, pH 7.00, pH 10.01). Use the provided pH buffer powders to prepare the calibration solutions.
- Prepare 250ml of purified water for each buffer solution. Dissolve one packet of pH 7.00 buffer powder into 250ml of purified water. Repeat for pH 4.00 and pH 10.01.
- Turn on the meter and select pH mode.
- Clean the probe with purified water and dry it.
- Immerse the probe into the pH 7.00 buffer solution. Gently shake and wait for the reading to stabilize.
- Long press the "MODE/CAL" button for 5 seconds until "CAL" flashes. The meter will automatically recognize the solution and calibrate. Once "7.00" flashes three times, the calibration for pH 7.00 is complete.
- Clean the probe with purified water and dry it.
- Repeat steps 4 and 5 for pH 4.00 and pH 10.01 buffer solutions.

6.2 TDS/EC/Salt Calibration
The TDS, EC, and Salinity functions are factory-calibrated. For most uses, direct use is possible. If recalibration is necessary, use a 1413 µS/cm EC standard solution.
- Turn on the meter and switch to EC mode (µS/cm).
- Clean the probe with purified water and dry it.
- Immerse the probe into the 1413 µS/cm EC standard solution. Gently shake and wait for the reading to stabilize.
- If the displayed value is more than 1413, press the "MODE/CAL" button to reduce the value. If the value is less than 1413, press the "HOLD/TEMP" button to increase the value. Adjust until the reading is 1413.
- Once "1413" flashes three times, the calibration is complete.
- Clean the probe with purified water and dry it.

7. Maintenance
7.1 Probe Cleaning
Always rinse the electrode with purified water after each use to prevent contamination and ensure accurate readings. Gently wipe the probe with a soft cloth or paper towel.
7.2 Probe Storage
The protective cap contains a sponge. To maintain the probe's longevity and accuracy, keep this sponge moist by adding a few drops of pH storage solution (KCL solution) to it. If the meter is not used for a long time, soak the probe in pH storage solution for about 30 minutes before use and recalibrate.

Figure 5: Probe details and maintenance. This image shows the high-sensitive probe, anti-jamming chip, and the protective sponge within the cap, emphasizing the importance of keeping the sponge moist with KCL solution.
7.3 Battery Replacement
When the display becomes dim or the meter does not respond, it's time to replace the batteries. The YK-5 uses 3 LR44 button cell batteries. Ensure correct polarity when inserting new batteries.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Inaccurate readings | Uncalibrated meter, dirty probe, expired buffer solutions, dry probe. | Calibrate the meter, clean the probe thoroughly, use fresh buffer solutions, ensure probe sponge is moist. |
| Display is dim or blank | Low battery or dead batteries. | Replace the LR44 batteries. |
| Reading fluctuates excessively | Air bubbles on the probe, insufficient immersion, contaminated solution. | Gently stir to remove bubbles, ensure probe is fully immersed, use clean samples. |
| Cannot calibrate | Incorrect calibration solution, damaged probe. | Verify correct buffer solutions are used, ensure probe is clean and undamaged. Consider replacing the probe if issues persist. |
