WESTAHO Salt Chlorine Generator (Model B0D49Q7B38) Instruction Manual

For Above Ground Pools Up to 15,000 Gallons

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation of your WESTAHO Salt Chlorine Generator, Model B0D49Q7B38. This system is designed to convert salt into chlorine, maintaining clean and sanitized water in above-ground pools up to 15,000 gallons. Please read these instructions thoroughly before installation and use.

2. Safety Information

  • Always disconnect power before performing any maintenance or service.
  • Ensure proper grounding of the unit.
  • Keep the control panel dry and protected from direct sunlight when possible. The unit has an IP66 waterproof rating, but prolonged exposure to harsh conditions should be avoided.
  • Maintain proper salt levels as specified to prevent damage to the cell and ensure effective chlorine production.
  • Store pool chemicals safely and out of reach of children.
  • Do not operate the system if the water temperature is below 52°F (11°C) to protect the cell.

3. Setup and Installation

The WESTAHO Salt Chlorine Generator is designed for easy integration with your existing above-ground pool filtration system. Follow these steps for proper setup:

  1. Determine Placement: Choose a location for the generator that is easily accessible, protected from extreme weather, and close to your pool's filtration system.
  2. Add Salt to Pool: Before connecting the generator, ensure your pool water has the correct salt concentration. The ideal salt level is 3000-5000 PPM. For this model, the ideal salt level is 3600 PPM. Refer to your pool's volume to calculate the required amount of pool-grade salt. Allow the salt to dissolve completely before starting the system.
  3. Connect to Filtration System: The generator should be installed after the filter pump and before the water returns to the pool. Use 1-1/4" (32mm) hoses for connection. The innovative magnetic water flow switch ensures proper operation.
  4. Power Connection: Plug the unit into a grounded electrical outlet.

4.1 Control Panel Overview

  • Digital Display: Shows pool water temperature, total cell usage time, cell operating voltage, and current.
  • Salt Level Indicators:
    • Green (Good): Optimal salt level.
    • Orange (Low): Salt level is low, consider adding salt.
    • Red (Add Salt / Low Salt System Off): Salt level is critically low, and the system may shut down.
    • Flashing Green (High Salt): Salt level is too high.
  • Status Indicators:
    • Cold (System Off): Water temperature is below 52°F (11°C), system is off.
    • Cell (Green-Good / Flashing-Inspect Cell): Indicates cell status. Flashing green means inspect the cell.
    • Flow (Green-Good Flow / Red-No Flow System Off): Indicates water flow status. Red means no flow, and the system is off.
  • Sanitizer Output: Adjust chlorine production from 20% (Min) to 100% (Max). Flashing LEDs indicate Low Output Mode. Press both "MORE" and "LESS" buttons simultaneously for 24-hour 100% output (Boost mode).

4.2 Initial Start-up and Operation

  1. Ensure the filter pump is running and there is adequate water flow through the generator.
  2. Press the POWER button to turn on the unit.
  3. Monitor the salt level indicator. If it shows "Low" or "Red," add salt as needed.
  4. Adjust the Sanitizer Output using the MORE and LESS buttons to achieve the desired chlorine production. Start with a moderate setting (e.g., 60%) and adjust based on pool size, usage, and chlorine demand.
  5. The system will automatically switch polarity every 10 hours for self-cleaning, prolonging cell life.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your salt chlorine generator.

  • Cell Cleaning: The unit features an "Acid Clean Every 3 Months" indicator. When this indicator lights up, it's time to clean the titanium cell. Follow the manufacturer's guidelines for acid washing the cell.
  • Inspect Cell: If the "Cell" indicator is flashing, inspect the cell for debris or scaling.
  • Water Flow: Ensure consistent water flow. The "Flow" indicator will turn red if there is no flow, and the system will shut off.
  • Salt Level Monitoring: Regularly test your pool's salt level using a reliable salt test kit. Adjust as necessary to maintain the ideal range of 3000-5000 PPM.
  • Titanium Cell Lifespan: The unit features 3 USA-made titanium cells designed for stable and efficient performance, extending its lifespan by up to 2 years. Individual cells can be replaced.

6. Troubleshooting

Refer to this section for common issues and their solutions.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Red "Low Salt" Indicator / System OffSalt level is below the recommended range (e.g., below 3000 PPM).Test pool water salt level. Add pool-grade salt as needed to reach 3000-5000 PPM (ideal 3600 PPM). Allow time for salt to dissolve and circulate.
Flashing Green "High Salt" IndicatorSalt level is above the recommended range.Partially drain pool water and refill with fresh water to dilute the salt concentration. Retest until within range.
Red "No Flow" Indicator / System OffInsufficient water flow through the generator.Check if the filter pump is running. Inspect hoses for kinks or blockages. Clean the filter. Ensure the magnetic water flow switch is clear.
Flashing "Inspect Cell" IndicatorThe titanium cell may require cleaning or inspection.Perform an acid wash on the cell as per maintenance instructions. Inspect for physical damage or excessive scaling.
No Chlorine ProductionLow salt level, insufficient run time, low sanitizer output setting, or dirty cell.Verify salt levels are correct. Increase sanitizer output setting. Ensure the system runs for adequate periods daily. Clean the cell if necessary.
"Cold" Indicator / System OffWater temperature is below 52°F (11°C).This is a protective feature. The system will resume operation automatically when the water temperature rises above 52°F (11°C).
