4. Installation Guide
Follow these steps to replace the filters in your COWAY air purifier:
- Power Off and Unplug: Before beginning, ensure your air purifier is turned off and unplugged from the power outlet. This is a critical safety step.
- Access Filter Compartment: Locate and open the filter compartment cover on your air purifier. Refer to your air purifier's original manual if you are unsure how to access this compartment.
- Remove Old Filters: Carefully remove the old primary carbon filter and HEPA filter from the air purifier. Dispose of them according to local regulations.
- Identify Filter Orientation: Observe the front and back of the HEPA filter. The HEPA filter typically has a distinct pleated side and a less pleated side.

Figure 4.1: Front and back view of the HEPA filter. Ensure correct orientation during installation.
- Install HEPA Filter: Insert the new HEPA filter into the air purifier's filter slot. Ensure it is seated firmly and correctly oriented as per your air purifier's design.
- Install Primary Carbon Filter: Place the primary carbon cotton filter directly on top of the newly installed HEPA filter. These two filters work in conjunction to provide comprehensive air purification.

Figure 4.2: Correct layering of the primary carbon filter over the HEPA filter. Air flows through both layers.
- Close Compartment: Securely close the filter compartment cover.
- Restore Power: Plug the air purifier back into the power outlet and turn it on. Some air purifiers may require a filter reset button to be pressed after replacement. Consult your air purifier's manual for specific instructions.
5. Operation and Maintenance
Once installed, the filters will immediately begin purifying the air. For optimal performance and air quality, adhere to the following maintenance guidelines:
- Filter Lifespan: The lifespan of the filters depends on usage frequency and air quality in your environment. As a general guideline, it is recommended to replace both the primary carbon filter and the HEPA filter every 6 to 12 months.
- Indicator Lights: Pay attention to your air purifier's filter replacement indicator light, if available. This light will signal when it's time to replace the filters.
- Regular Cleaning: While the filters themselves are not washable, you can gently vacuum the exterior of the primary carbon filter (if accessible without damaging it) to remove larger dust particles between replacements. Do not wash the HEPA filter.
- Air Quality: If you notice a decrease in air purifier performance, increased odors, or visible dirt on the filters before the recommended replacement interval, consider replacing them sooner.

6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues after replacing your filters, consider the following:
- Air Purifier Not Turning On:
- Ensure the air purifier is securely plugged into a working power outlet.
- Verify that the filter compartment cover is fully closed and latched. Some models have a safety switch that prevents operation if the cover is not properly secured.
- Reduced Airflow or Odors Persist:
- Check that both the HEPA filter and the primary carbon filter are installed correctly and are not obstructed.
- Confirm that the filters are compatible with your specific COWAY air purifier model.
- If the issue persists shortly after replacement, the air quality in your environment might be exceptionally poor, requiring more frequent filter changes.
- Filter Reset Light Still On:
- Many air purifiers require a manual reset of the filter indicator light after filter replacement. Refer to your air purifier's original user manual for instructions on how to reset the filter life indicator.
