3. Setup

3.1. Battery Installation

The MT28 moisture meter requires one 9V battery for operation. To install the battery:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
  2. Slide the cover open or remove it according to the indicated direction.
  3. Insert a new 9V battery, ensuring the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals align correctly with the connectors inside the compartment.
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

3.2. Initial Power On

Press the green power button located on the front of the device to turn it on. The LCD display will illuminate, and the device will perform a brief self-check before entering measurement mode.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Basic Measurement

To take a moisture reading:

  1. Ensure the meter is powered on.
  2. Place the back of the meter flat against the surface you wish to measure. The sensor is located on the back of the device.
  3. Hold the meter steady. The moisture reading will appear on the digital display.
  4. For consistent results, ensure your fingers are placed on the rubber grips on the sides of the meter and not on the sensor area.

4.2. Material Selection

The MT28 offers different modes for various materials to optimize measurement accuracy. Press the 'MODE' button to cycle through the available material types:

  • WALL: For general wall surfaces, including drywall and plaster.
  • MASONRY: For brick, concrete, and other masonry materials.
  • SOFT WOOD: For softer wood types.
  • HARD WOOD: For denser, harder wood types.

4.3. Interpreting Readings

The meter displays moisture content as a percentage. It also provides visual and audible indicators for moisture levels:

  • DRY: Indicates low moisture content.
  • MID: Indicates moderate moisture content.
  • WET: Indicates high moisture content, suggesting potential issues.

4.4. Important Considerations

  • Avoid Metal Surfaces: For best results, avoid placing the meter directly on or near metal objects, as this can interfere with readings.
  • Smooth Surface Recommended: The meter performs best on flat, clean, and smooth surfaces.
  • Relative Values Only: Readings are relative and can be affected by material density and composition. Use readings to compare moisture levels across an area rather than as absolute values.

4.5. Built-in LED Flashlight

To activate the built-in LED flashlight, press the dedicated flashlight button (often located on the side or back of the device). This feature is useful for inspecting dark or poorly lit areas, such as basements or behind cabinets.

5. Maintenance

5.1. Cleaning

To ensure the longevity and accuracy of your moisture meter:

  • Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth after each use.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the casing or display.
  • Keep the sensor area clean and free of debris.

5.2. Storage

Store the moisture meter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If the device will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage and potential damage.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Inaccurate Readings: Ensure the meter is held flat against the surface, your fingers are on the rubber grips, and there are no metal objects interfering with the sensor. Recalibrate if necessary by turning the device off and on.
  • No Power/Display Not Working: Check if the 9V battery is correctly installed and has sufficient charge. Replace the battery if needed.
  • Device Not Responding: Try removing and reinserting the battery. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
