Model: 81781

Product Overview

The GE 6-Outlet Swivel Surge Protector Wall Tap is designed to expand a standard grounded duplex wall outlet into six grounded, three-prong outlets. This compact unit provides flexible power distribution and surge protection for your electronic devices. Setup Instructions

  1. Identify a Suitable Outlet: Locate a standard, grounded 3-prong duplex wall outlet. Ensure the outlet is easily accessible and not obstructed.
  2. Plug in the Surge Protector: Insert the GE 6-Outlet Swivel Surge Protector directly into the chosen wall outlet. Ensure it is firmly seated.
  3. Verify LED Indicators: Once plugged in, observe the two LED indicators on the front of the unit.
    • The "GROUNDED" indicator should illuminate green, confirming the wall outlet is properly grounded.
    • The "PROTECTED" indicator should illuminate green, confirming the surge protection feature is active and functioning.
If either LED does not illuminate, refer to the Troubleshooting section.
  4. Connect Devices: You can now connect your electronic devices to the available outlets. The swivel design allows you to rotate the outlet banks up to 90 degrees for optimal plug placement.

Operating Instructions

Using Swivel Outlets

The GE 6-Outlet Swivel Surge Protector features two banks of three outlets each, which can rotate independently up to 90 degrees. This allows for flexible positioning of plugs, accommodating bulky adapters without blocking adjacent outlets. Simply grasp the side of an outlet bank and gently rotate it to the desired angle (front-facing or side-facing).

Understanding LED Indicators

  • GROUNDED (Green LED): This indicator confirms that the wall outlet to which the surge protector is connected is properly grounded. A proper ground connection is essential for effective surge protection. If this LED is off, the outlet may not be grounded, and the surge protector will not provide full protection. Consult a qualified electrician to inspect the wiring.
  • PROTECTED (Green LED): This indicator confirms that the surge protection circuitry is active and functioning. As long as this LED is illuminated, your connected devices are protected from power surges. If this LED is off, it indicates that the surge protection components have been sacrificed to protect your equipment from a significant surge. The unit will continue to function as a multi-outlet adapter, but without surge protection. It is recommended to replace the unit to restore full protection.

Maintenance

The GE 6-Outlet Swivel Surge Protector requires minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines to ensure its longevity and proper function:

  • Cleaning: Before cleaning, ensure the surge protector is unplugged from the wall outlet and all devices are disconnected. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use liquid cleaners, aerosols, or solvents, as these may damage the unit or pose an electrical hazard.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the unit for any signs of damage, such as cracks in the casing or frayed wires. If any damage is observed, discontinue use immediately and replace the unit.
  • No User-Serviceable Parts: This product contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not attempt to open or repair the unit, as this will void the warranty and could result in electrical shock or fire.
