Initial Setup
Unpacking
Carefully remove the helmet from its packaging. Inspect the helmet for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. Retain all packaging materials for future storage or if the helmet needs to be returned.
Fitment
Proper fit is crucial for safety and comfort. The helmet should fit snugly around your head without causing pressure points. To check the fit:
- Place the helmet on your head, ensuring the chin strap is unfastened.
- The helmet should feel snug around the crown and cheeks.
- Fasten the chin strap securely. It should be tight enough that you cannot pull the helmet off your head by rolling it forward or backward.
- Shake your head from side to side and up and down. The helmet should move with your head, not independently.
The HJC i91 features removable and washable cheek and crown pads, which are interchangeable across all sizes to help achieve a customized fit. Glasses grooves are also integrated to enhance comfort for eyewear users.

Operating Your HJC i91 Helmet
Modular Function
The i91 helmet features a modular design, allowing the chin bar to be raised. To operate the modular function, locate the release button or lever, typically positioned at the front center of the chin bar. Press or slide this mechanism and pivot the chin bar upwards until it locks into the open position. To close, simply pull the chin bar down firmly until it clicks securely into place.
Visor System (HJ-33 Shield & HJ-V12 Sun Visor)
The helmet is equipped with two visors for varying light conditions:
- HJ-33 Pinlock Ready Shield: This clear outer shield offers 99% UV protection and features an anti-scratch coating. It is designed to accept a Pinlock anti-fog insert (sold separately) for enhanced visibility in humid or cold conditions. The shield can be opened and closed using the tab located at the bottom center.
- HJ-V12 Sun Visor: An integrated, retractable sun visor provides quick sun glare reduction. To deploy the sun visor, use the slider mechanism located on the side of the helmet. Slide it down to lower the visor and up to retract it. This dynamic multi-step sun visor allows for optimized positioning to minimize eye strain.

Ventilation System
The Advanced Channeling Ventilation System (ACS) is designed to provide optimal airflow. It features front-to-back airflow channels that effectively expel heat and humidity from inside the helmet, helping to keep you cool and comfortable during your ride. Ensure all vents are clear of obstructions for maximum efficiency.
SMART HJC Bluetooth System Integration
The HJC i91 helmet is ready for SMART HJC 21B & 50B Bluetooth communication systems (sold separately). These systems are designed for seamless integration into the helmet, providing an optimal weight balance and aerodynamic performance. Refer to the SMART HJC system's specific instruction manual for installation and operation details.

Care and Maintenance
Interior Cleaning
The i91 features a moisture-wicking, quick-drying Supercool Interior. The cheek and crown pads are fully removable and washable. To clean:
- Carefully remove the interior pads from the helmet.
- Hand wash the pads in cold water with a mild soap or a specialized helmet interior cleaner.
- Rinse thoroughly and allow them to air dry completely before re-installing. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.

The Supercool Interior is designed for easy removal and cleaning.
Exterior Cleaning
Clean the helmet's exterior shell with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish and protective coatings. For the visors, use only water and a soft cloth. Do not use chemical cleaners on the visors, especially the Pinlock-ready shield, as they can damage the anti-scratch or anti-fog properties.
Storage
Store your helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use a helmet bag to protect it from dust and scratches when not in use.
Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your HJC i91 helmet.
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Excessive Wind Noise | Improper fit; open vents; chin curtain not installed; external factors (windscreen, riding position). | Ensure helmet fits snugly. Close vents if not needed. Check chin curtain installation. Adjust riding position or consider a different windscreen on your motorcycle. |
| Headset Wiring/Fit Issues | Improper routing of wires; incompatible headset model; speakers not seated correctly. | Refer to the SMART HJC system manual for correct installation. Ensure wires are routed in designated channels. Verify compatibility of your headset with the i91 model. |
| Insufficient Airflow/Ventilation | Vents are closed or obstructed; riding conditions. | Ensure all intake and exhaust vents are fully open and clear of debris. Adjust riding speed and position to optimize airflow. |
| Visor Fogging | High humidity or cold temperatures; lack of airflow. | Install a Pinlock anti-fog insert (sold separately). Slightly crack open the clear shield for increased airflow. Ensure ventilation vents are open. |
