1. Introduction
This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the SMATAR replacement remote control, designed for various Apple TV models. This remote offers full functionality comparable to the original remote, allowing control over your Apple TV and certain television functions.
Important Note: This is an Infrared (IR) remote control. It requires a direct line-of-sight to your Apple TV and television to function. It is not a Bluetooth/RF remote, does not support Siri voice commands, and does not have a touchpad function. It is not compatible with A-Pod/H-Pod devices.
2. Setup
2.1 Battery Installation
The remote requires one CR2032 coin cell battery (not included). Follow these steps to install the battery:
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the remote control.
- Use a coin or a small tool to twist the battery cover counter-clockwise to open it.
- Insert a new CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side facing upwards.
- Replace the battery cover and twist it clockwise to secure it.

2.2 Initial Use (No Programming Required)
Once the battery is installed, the remote is ready for immediate use with compatible Apple TV models. No additional programming or pairing is required for basic Apple TV functions.
2.3 Pairing Instructions (If Necessary for Advanced Functions)
While basic functions work out of the box, if you experience issues or wish to ensure full compatibility, you can attempt a pairing process:
- Point the remote directly at your Apple TV.
- Press and hold the Back button (<) and the Left directional button simultaneously for approximately 6 seconds.
- Release the buttons when you observe an LED flash on the remote or a notification on your TV screen indicating successful pairing.

3. Operating Instructions
This section details the functions of each button on your SMATAR replacement remote.

- MENU: Navigates back in menus or returns to the previous screen.
- Power (⏻): Turns the connected television on or off.
- Directional Pad (Up/Down/Left/Right): Navigates through menus and content.
- Select (Center Button): Confirms selections or plays/pauses content.
- Back (<): Returns to the previous screen or menu.
- TV/Home (⌂):
- Single Press: Go to the Home screen.
- Double Press: Switch between open applications.
- Long Press: Access the Control Center.
- Play/Pause (⏸): Plays or pauses media content.
- Volume Up (+): Increases the television volume.
- Volume Down (-): Decreases the television volume.
- Mute (🔇): Mutes or unmutes the television audio.
Note on TV Control Buttons: The Power, Mute, Volume Up, and Volume Down buttons are designed to control specific television brands. These buttons are compatible with TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony, Westinghouse, Insignia, Vizio, and Toshiba. They are not compatible with ROKU TVs.

4. Compatibility
This SMATAR replacement remote is compatible with a wide range of Apple TV models, including:
- Apple TV 4K (Generations 1, 2, 3, 4)
- Apple TV HD
- Specific Apple TV remote models: A1294, A1218/MA711, A1378/MC572, A1427/MD199, A1625/MGY52/MLNC2, A1842/MQD22/MP7P2, A2843, A2737, A2169

5. Troubleshooting
- Remote Not Responding:
- Ensure the remote has a fresh CR2032 battery installed correctly with the positive (+) side up.
- Verify there is a clear line-of-sight between the remote and your Apple TV/television. This is an IR remote and requires direct visibility.
- Check for any obstructions between the remote and the device.
- TV Control Buttons Not Working:
- Confirm your television brand is listed as compatible (Samsung, LG, Sony, Westinghouse, Insignia, Vizio, Toshiba). ROKU TVs are not supported for these functions.
- Ensure line-of-sight to your television's IR receiver.
- Limited Functionality (No Siri/Touchpad):
- This remote is an IR replacement and does not include advanced features like Siri voice control or a touchpad. These features are exclusive to original Bluetooth-enabled Apple TV remotes.
