4. Setup and First Use

Before using your coffee maker for the first time, follow these steps:

  1. Unpack: Remove all packaging materials and labels.
  2. Wash: Disassemble the coffee maker and wash all parts with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
  3. First Brew (Seasoning): To season the coffee maker and remove any manufacturing residues, perform 2-3 brewing cycles using only water and a small amount of inexpensive ground coffee. Discard the coffee from these cycles.

5. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to brew coffee with your BERGNER Copper Coffee Maker:

  1. Fill Water: Unscrew the upper chamber from the lower chamber. Fill the lower chamber with cold water up to the level of the safety valve. Do not overfill.
  2. Add Coffee: Insert the filter funnel into the lower chamber. Fill the filter funnel with medium-fine ground coffee. Do not tamp the coffee. Level the coffee gently.
  3. Assemble: Screw the upper chamber firmly onto the lower chamber, ensuring a tight seal. Do not overtighten.
  4. Heat: Place the coffee maker on a stovetop over medium heat. For induction cooktops, ensure the base is fully in contact with the burner. Keep the lid closed during brewing.
  5. Brewing: Water will heat up and rise through the coffee grounds into the upper chamber. You will hear a gurgling sound as the coffee brews.
  6. Serve: Once the upper chamber is full and the gurgling sound stops, remove the coffee maker from the heat. Pour and serve the freshly brewed coffee.

6. Cleaning and Maintenance

Proper cleaning ensures the longevity and performance of your coffee maker:

  • Daily Cleaning: After each use, allow the coffee maker to cool completely. Disassemble all parts. Discard used coffee grounds. Wash all components with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Drying: Dry all parts completely before reassembling or storing to prevent mineral buildup and corrosion.
  • Avoid Abrasives: Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish.
  • Gasket and Filter Plate: Periodically check the rubber gasket and filter plate for wear and tear. Replace if they appear damaged or if the seal is compromised.
  • Descaling: Over time, mineral deposits may build up. To descale, fill the lower chamber with a solution of equal parts water and white vinegar. Place the filter funnel (without coffee) and upper chamber. Brew the solution. Repeat with plain water to rinse.
