AutoLine Pro Automotive Smoke Machine Model 01 User Manual

Model: 01 (ASM-GREEN-PA)

1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and effective use of the AutoLine Pro Automotive Smoke Machine, Model 01. This device is designed for detecting leaks in automotive systems such as EVAP, vacuum, and exhaust systems.

Key Features

  • Integrated 1-PSI Air Compressor: Eliminates the need for an external air compressor. Operates using a vehicle's 12V battery. The 1-PSI pressure is standard for automotive leak testing and safe for EVAP systems.
  • Premium Ceramic Cartridge: Features a durable ceramic heating element for consistent, high-volume smoke generation, aiding in the detection of small leaks.
  • Compact Design: Facilitates easy storage and transport.
  • OEM Approved Smoke Fluid Included: Supplied with 800 minutes of high-output smoke fluid, safe for all systems and sensors.

2. Safety Information

Read all safety warnings and instructions before operating this device. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.

  • Always operate the smoke machine in a well-ventilated area.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and gloves.
  • Do not inhale the smoke directly.
  • Ensure the vehicle's engine is off and cool before performing any leak tests.
  • Connect the power clamps correctly: red to positive (+), black to negative (-). Incorrect connection can damage the device or vehicle.
  • Do not overfill the smoke fluid reservoir.
  • Keep the device away from open flames or high temperatures.
  • Store the smoke fluid in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children.
  • Do not use the device if it is damaged or malfunctioning.

5.2 Power Connection

  1. Connect the red alligator clamp to the positive (+) terminal of a 12V vehicle battery.
  2. Connect the black alligator clamp to the negative (-) terminal of the 12V vehicle battery.
  3. Ensure connections are secure.

5.3 Initial Checks

  • Before starting, ensure all hoses and connections are properly secured to the smoke machine.
  • Confirm the smoke fluid level is adequate.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Performing a Leak Test

  1. Prepare the vehicle system for testing. This may involve blocking certain openings or disconnecting components as per vehicle-specific service procedures.
  2. Connect the smoke hose from the machine to the system being tested (e.g., intake manifold, EVAP line, exhaust pipe). Use appropriate adapters as needed.
  3. Turn on the smoke machine using the power switch.
  4. Allow a few moments for the machine to generate smoke. Smoke will begin to exit the hose.
  5. Observe the system for smoke escaping, which indicates a leak.
  6. Once the leak is identified or testing is complete, turn off the smoke machine.
  7. Disconnect the power clamps from the vehicle battery.
  8. Remove the smoke hose and any adapters from the vehicle system.

6.2 EVAP System Testing

When testing EVAP systems, it is crucial to maintain pressure below 1 PSI to prevent damage. The Model 01's built-in compressor is designed to operate at this safe pressure.

  • Locate the EVAP service port on the vehicle.
  • Connect the EVAP service port adapter (if included or purchased separately) to the vehicle's EVAP service port.
  • Connect the smoke hose to the adapter.
  • Proceed with the leak test as described in Section 6.1.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

  • After each use, wipe down the exterior of the machine with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Ensure no smoke fluid residue is left on external surfaces.

7.2 Fluid Management

  • Regularly check the smoke fluid level. Refill as needed with AutoLine Pro Smoke Fluid.
  • Do not allow the machine to run dry, as this can damage the heating element.

7.3 Storage

  • Store the smoke machine in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Keep all accessories organized and protected.
