Setup
Unpacking and Assembly
- Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
- Attach the guide bar and chain according to the instructions provided in the separate assembly guide (if applicable). Ensure the chain is correctly tensioned.
- Verify all nuts and bolts are securely tightened.
Fuel and Chain Oil Mixture
The Husqvarna 120 Mark III uses a 2-cycle engine and requires a specific fuel mixture.
- Fuel: Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher.
- Oil: Mix with high-quality 2-stroke engine oil specifically designed for air-cooled engines, at a ratio of 50:1 (2% oil).
- Chain Oil: Fill the chain oil reservoir with high-quality bar and chain oil. Do not use waste oil or motor oil.
Warning: Always mix fuel in a well-ventilated area away from ignition sources. Store fuel in approved containers.
Operating Instructions
Starting the Chainsaw
- Place the chainsaw on a firm, flat surface.
- Engage the chain brake by pushing the hand guard forward.
- Press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible.
- Pull the choke control out fully.
- Hold the front handle firmly with one hand and place your foot on the rear handle.
- Pull the starter cord with a smooth, steady motion until the engine fires (usually 1-3 pulls).
- Once the engine fires, push the choke control in halfway.
- Pull the starter cord again until the engine starts and runs.
- Once the engine is running, disengage the chain brake by pulling the hand guard back.
Cutting Techniques
- Felling: Plan your felling direction, clear the area, and make proper felling cuts (notch and felling cut).
- Limbing: Work from the base of the tree towards the top, removing smaller branches first. Be aware of spring poles.
- Bucking: Cut logs into desired lengths. Support the log to prevent pinching the bar.
Caution: Always maintain a firm grip and balanced stance. Never cut above shoulder height.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of your chainsaw.
Daily Maintenance
- Check chain tension and adjust if necessary.
- Inspect the chain for sharpness and damage. Sharpen or replace as needed.
- Clean the air filter.
- Check the chain oil level and refill.
- Clean the guide bar groove and oil holes.
- Inspect the chain brake for proper function.
Weekly/Monthly Maintenance
- Clean the spark plug and check the gap. Replace if worn.
- Clean the cooling fins.
- Check the starter cord and recoil spring.
- Inspect the fuel filter.
Storage
When storing the chainsaw for extended periods:
- Drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor.
- Drain the chain oil tank.
- Clean the entire chainsaw thoroughly.
- Remove the spark plug and add a small amount of 2-stroke oil into the cylinder, then pull the starter cord a few times to distribute. Reinstall the spark plug.
- Store in a dry, well-ventilated area, out of reach of children.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine does not start | No fuel, incorrect choke setting, fouled spark plug, flooded engine. | Check fuel level, adjust choke, clean/replace spark plug, clear flooded engine (refer to manual for procedure). |
| Engine runs, but chain does not move | Chain brake engaged, clutch issue. | Disengage chain brake. If problem persists, consult a service technician. |
| Poor cutting performance | Dull chain, incorrect chain tension, worn guide bar. | Sharpen or replace chain, adjust chain tension, inspect/replace guide bar. |
| Excessive vibration | Loose components, damaged chain/bar, engine imbalance. | Check all fasteners, inspect chain and bar for damage. If problem persists, seek professional service. |
