1. Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and efficient operation, setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your TIANSE Coil Binding Machine, model BM-S12-US. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the machine to ensure proper function and to prevent damage or injury.
2. Safety Instructions
- Always place the machine on a stable, flat surface.
- Keep hands and loose clothing away from moving parts during operation.
- Do not attempt to bind materials thicker than the specified maximum capacity.
- Unplug the machine from the power outlet before cleaning or performing any maintenance.
- Keep the machine out of reach of children.
- Do not operate the machine if the power cord is damaged.
3. Product Overview and Components
Familiarize yourself with the various parts of your TIANSE Coil Binding Machine.

The machine features an adjustable speed rotary switch for the electric coil inserter, allowing for convenient binding. The electric coil inserter is designed for hands-free operation, saving time and effort for large workloads.

4. Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the binding machine from its packaging. Retain all packaging materials for future storage or transport.
- Placement: Place the machine on a sturdy, level desk or workbench. Ensure there is enough space around the machine for comfortable operation and paper handling.
- Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet.
- Initial Cleaning: Before first use, it is recommended to punch through a few sheets of scrap paper or the supplied cardboard to clear any manufacturing residue from the punching dies. This helps ensure clean punches.
5. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps to bind your documents using the TIANSE Coil Binding Machine.

5.1. Adjusting Paper Settings
- Paper Sizing Guide: Use the integrated paper sizing guide to correctly position your paper. The slider locks the paper size, ensuring a fixed paper position and symmetrical output. The machine supports A4 (46 holes), Letter (42 holes), and A5 (33 holes) paper sizes.
- Adjustable Paper Margin: The paper margin adjustment allows you to choose the depth of the punch from the edge of the paper. Adjust this setting based on your project's requirements.

5.2. Punching Documents
- Prepare Pages: Gather the pages you wish to bind. Ensure they are neatly stacked and aligned.
- Insert Pages: Insert a stack of pages into the paper inlet, aligning them against the paper sizing guide and the adjustable paper margin. Do not exceed the maximum punching capacity (typically 12 sheets of 80gsm paper). Overloading can damage the machine or result in incomplete punches.
- Punch: Firmly press down the punch handle to punch holes through the paper. Release the handle to return it to its original position.
- Repeat: Remove the punched pages and repeat the process for all remaining pages, including covers.
5.3. Inserting the Coil
- Select Coil: Choose a spiral coil of appropriate size for your document thickness. The machine uses a 4:1 pitch ratio (4 holes per inch).
- Align Pages: Stack all punched pages and covers in the desired order.
- Manual Insertion: Thread the coil through the first few holes of your document manually.
- Electric Insertion: Turn on the power switch for the electric coil inserter. Adjust the rotary switch to your desired speed. Gently push the document against the rotating rubber roller, allowing the coil to feed through the remaining holes automatically.
5.4. Crimping the Coil
- Once the coil is fully inserted, use a pair of coil crimping pliers (not included with all models) to cut and crimp both ends of the coil. This prevents the coil from unraveling.
- If crimping pliers are not available, you can manually bend the ends of the coil inward to secure them.
6. Maintenance
- Empty Scrap Box: Regularly empty the drawer-type scrap box located at the bottom of the machine. A full scrap box can interfere with punching performance.
- Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Lubrication: The punching dies are generally self-lubricating. If punching becomes stiff, punching through waxed paper can help lubricate the dies.
7. Troubleshooting
- Incomplete Punches:
- Reduce the number of sheets being punched at once.
- Ensure the punch handle is fully depressed.
- Empty the scrap box.
- Paper Jam:
- Carefully pull the jammed paper out. Do not force it.
- Check for any foreign objects in the punching area.
- Electric Inserter Not Working:
- Ensure the machine is plugged in and the power switch is turned on.
- Check the adjustable speed rotary switch is not set to 'OFF'.
- Coil Not Feeding Smoothly:
- Ensure the coil size matches the document thickness.
- Verify that all holes are cleanly punched and free of paper debris.
- Adjust the speed of the electric inserter.
