  1. Identify the appropriate port for the function you intend to use (OTDR, VFL, OPM, OLS).
  2. Carefully clean the fiber optic connector end-face before connecting to prevent contamination.
  3. Insert the fiber optic connector into the corresponding port until it clicks securely into place.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On/Off

Press and hold the power button (usually marked with a power symbol) to turn the device on or off. The 3.97-inch IPS color touch screen will illuminate upon startup.

5.2 Navigating the Interface

The device features a touch screen interface for easy navigation. You can also use the physical keypad for certain operations. The main menu provides access to the four primary functions: OTDR, VFL, OPM, and OLS, along with Settings and File management.

5.3 OTDR Function (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer)

The OTDR function is used for measuring fiber optic cable length, identifying breaks, bends, and other events along the fiber. It supports 1310/1550nm, 1550nm, and 1610nm wavelengths with dynamic ranges up to 22/20dB.

  1. From the main menu, select "OTDR".
  2. Configure the test parameters such as wavelength, pulse width, and measurement range.
  3. Connect the fiber to be tested to the OTDR port.
  4. Initiate the test. The device will display the trace and event table.
  5. Analyze the results to identify fiber characteristics and fault locations.

5.4 VFL Function (Visual Fault Locator)

The VFL emits a visible red laser light into the fiber, allowing for quick identification of breaks, macro-bends, and poor connections over short distances. The built-in VFL has an output power of >=10mW.

  1. From the main menu, select "VFL".
  2. Connect the fiber to the VFL port.
  3. Activate the VFL. Observe the fiber for any visible light leakage, indicating a fault.

5.5 OPM Function (Optical Power Meter)

The OPM measures the optical power of a fiber optic signal. It has a measurement range of -70 to +10 dBm (or -50 to +26 dBm optional) and supports wavelengths from 800 to 1650nm.

  1. From the main menu, select "OPM".
  2. Connect the fiber carrying the optical signal to the OPM port.
  3. The device will display the measured optical power in dBm.

5.6 OLS Function (Optical Light Source)

The OLS provides a stable optical signal for testing fiber optic cables, often used in conjunction with an OPM for loss measurements. The built-in OLS supports 1310/1550nm wavelengths with an output power of >=-5dBm.

  1. From the main menu, select "OLS".
  2. Select the desired wavelength (e.g., 1310nm or 1550nm).
  3. Connect the fiber to the OLS port. The device will emit a stable optical signal.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the device's screen and casing with a soft, dry cloth. For optical ports, use specialized fiber optic cleaning tools to ensure accurate measurements and prevent damage.
  • Storage: Store the device in its softcase in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. Recharge the device regularly, especially if it will be stored for an extended period.
  • Connector Care: Always cap optical ports when not in use to prevent dust and debris contamination.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 Common Issues and Solutions

  • Device not powering on:

Ensure the battery is charged. Connect the charger and try again. If the issue persists, the battery may need replacement or there could be a power circuit issue.

  • Inaccurate measurements:

Clean all fiber optic connectors and ports thoroughly. Ensure the correct fiber type (SM) and wavelength settings are selected for the test. Check for damaged patch cords or adapters.

  • No VFL light output:

Check if the VFL function is activated. Ensure the fiber is properly connected. If the VFL port is dirty or damaged, clean or inspect it.

  • Screen unresponsive:

Try restarting the device. If the screen remains unresponsive, contact customer support.
