4. Setup and Installation
The Chipolino Aviato i-Size Car Seat is installed using the vehicle's 3-point seat belt. It supports both rear-facing and forward-facing orientations depending on your child's height.
4.1. Rear-Facing Installation (40-105 cm height)
For children with a height between 40 cm and 105 cm (approximately birth to 4 years), the car seat must be installed in a rear-facing position. This provides optimal protection for infants and toddlers.
- Place the car seat on the vehicle seat, ensuring it is stable.
- Route the vehicle's 3-point seat belt through the designated blue belt guides for rear-facing installation.
- Fasten the vehicle's seat belt buckle securely.
- Pull the seat belt tight to eliminate any slack, ensuring the car seat is firmly secured and does not move more than 2.5 cm (1 inch) in any direction.
- Ensure the recline position is appropriate for your child's age and comfort, especially for newborns.

4.2. Forward-Facing Installation (100-150 cm height)
For children with a height between 100 cm and 150 cm (approximately 4 to 12 years), the car seat can be installed in a forward-facing position. At this stage, the child is secured using the vehicle's 3-point seat belt, and the car seat's 5-point harness is typically removed or stowed away.
- Place the car seat on the vehicle seat, facing forward.
- Route the vehicle's 3-point seat belt through the designated red belt guides for forward-facing installation.
- Fasten the vehicle's seat belt buckle securely.
- Ensure the shoulder strap of the vehicle's seat belt passes over the child's shoulder and across the chest, not the neck. The lap belt should be low across the hips, not the stomach.
- Adjust the headrest so that the vehicle's shoulder belt is positioned correctly.
5. Operating and Adjustments
5.1. Adjusting the 5-Point Harness
The 5-point harness is used for children in the rear-facing position (40-105 cm). Ensure the harness straps are at or just below your child's shoulders when rear-facing.
- To tighten: Pull the adjustment strap located at the front of the car seat until the harness is snug against your child's body.
- To loosen: Press the harness release button (usually located near the adjustment strap) and pull the shoulder straps outwards.
- To buckle: Insert both buckle tongues into the central buckle until they click.
- To unbuckle: Press the red button on the central buckle.

5.2. Headrest Adjustment
The headrest is adjustable to accommodate your child's growth and ensure proper head and neck support. It should be adjusted so that the shoulder straps are at the correct height for your child (at or just below shoulders for rear-facing, at or just above shoulders for forward-facing when using the 5-point harness).
- Locate the headrest adjustment lever (usually at the top or back of the headrest).
- Squeeze the lever and simultaneously pull up or push down the headrest to the desired height.
- Release the lever to lock the headrest in place.

5.3. Recline Positions
The car seat offers multiple recline positions for your child's comfort, especially important for younger infants in the rear-facing position.
- Locate the recline adjustment lever (usually at the front or bottom of the seat).
- Press the lever and adjust the seat to the desired recline angle.
- Ensure the seat locks securely into the chosen position before placing your child in it.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and hygiene of your car seat.
- Cleaning the Cover: The car seat cover is removable and washable. Please refer to the care label on the cover for specific washing instructions. Typically, machine wash on a gentle cycle with cold water and mild detergent. Do not bleach or tumble dry. Air dry only.
- Cleaning the Harness: Wipe the harness straps with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not immerse the buckle in water or use harsh chemicals, as this can degrade the webbing.
- Cleaning the Plastic Parts: Wipe plastic parts with a damp cloth and mild soap.
- Storage: When not in use, store the car seat in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
7. Troubleshooting
- Car seat feels loose after installation: Re-check all belt paths and ensure the vehicle's 3-point seat belt is pulled as tight as possible. The car seat should not move more than 2.5 cm (1 inch) side-to-side or front-to-back at the belt path.
- Harness straps are twisted: Unbuckle the harness and carefully untwist the straps. Ensure they lie flat against your child's body.
- Buckle is difficult to fasten/unfasten: Check for any debris in the buckle mechanism. Clean with a damp cloth if necessary. Do not lubricate.
- Child's head slumps forward (rear-facing): Ensure the car seat is in an appropriate recline position for your child's age and weight. For newborns, a more reclined position is often necessary.
