2. Safety Information
Please read all safety warnings and instructions carefully before using this product. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
- Do not use the device if it appears damaged or is not operating correctly.
- Always verify the device's functionality on a known live circuit before use.
- This device is designed for AC voltage detection only. Do not attempt to measure DC voltage.
- Do not exceed the specified voltage range (12V-1000V AC).
- Keep the device away from water and moisture.
- Replace batteries promptly when the low battery indicator appears to ensure accurate readings.
- This device is not a substitute for proper electrical safety procedures. Always consult a qualified electrician for complex electrical work.
3. Setup
Battery Installation:
- Twist and remove the battery cap at the top of the tester pen.
- Insert two (2) AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Replace the battery cap, twisting it securely until it clicks into place.
The device requires 2 AAA batteries for operation. Ensure fresh batteries are used for optimal performance.
4. Operating Instructions
Power On/Off:
- Press the Power button (
) to turn the device on. The LCD screen will illuminate. - Press and hold the Power button to turn the device off.
- The device features an Auto Power-Off function, automatically shutting down after 3 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life.
Non-Contact AC Voltage Detection:
The ANENG VC1010 can detect AC voltage without direct contact, enhancing safety.
- Turn on the device.
- Bring the tip of the tester pen close to the wire, outlet, or electrical component you wish to test.
- If AC voltage is detected, the device will emit an audible beep, the LED indicator will flash, and the LCD screen will display a signal strength bar graph (AC Lo for low sensitivity, AC Hi for high sensitivity).

Figure 2: Detecting AC voltage in an electrical outlet. The image shows the tester pen's tip near an outlet, with the tip glowing red, indicating voltage detection.

Figure 3: Visual indication of AC voltage detection. This illustration shows the tester pen detecting AC voltage, with the LCD screen displaying a full bar graph and 'AC Lo' or 'AC Hi' text.
Sensitivity Adjustment:
- Press the Sensitivity button (labeled 'S') to switch between high and low sensitivity modes.
- Low Sensitivity (AC Lo): Suitable for detecting higher voltages or when precise localization is not critical.
- High Sensitivity (AC Hi): Ideal for detecting lower voltages or for more precise localization of live wires.
Breakpoint Detection:
This feature allows you to identify breaks in a live wire by tracking the voltage signal.
- Ensure the wire is live and the device is in an appropriate sensitivity mode.
- Move the tip of the tester pen along the length of the wire.
- The device will indicate voltage (sound, light, LCD) up to the point of the break. When the signal stops, you have located the breakpoint.

Figure 4: Breakpoint detection along a wire. This image illustrates the tester pen being moved along a bundle of wires, showing how it detects the presence of voltage up to a certain point, indicating a break beyond that point.
Flashlight Function:
- Press the Flashlight button (
) to turn the built-in LED flashlight on or off. This is useful for working in dimly lit areas.
5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the device with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
- Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator is displayed on the LCD screen to ensure accurate operation.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not turn on. | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. | Check battery polarity. Replace with fresh AAA batteries. |
| Inaccurate or inconsistent readings. | Low battery power; incorrect sensitivity setting; external interference. | Replace batteries. Adjust sensitivity (AC Lo/Hi). Move away from strong electromagnetic fields. |
| No detection on a known live circuit. | Device malfunction; very low voltage; tip not close enough. | Ensure tip is close to the conductor. Try high sensitivity mode. If problem persists, the device may be faulty. |
