Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all packaging materials from the kettle and toaster. Retain packaging for storage or disposal.
  2. Initial Cleaning:
    • Kettle: Before first use, fill the kettle with water to the MAX level, boil, and then discard the water. Repeat this process two to three times to remove any manufacturing residues.
    • Toaster: Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth. Operate the toaster for a few cycles without bread on the highest setting to burn off any manufacturing odors. Ensure adequate ventilation during this process.
  3. Placement: Place both appliances on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface, away from the edge of the countertop and out of reach of children. Ensure there is sufficient space around the appliances for ventilation.
  4. Power Connection: Plug the power cords into a suitable grounded electrical outlet.

Operating Instructions

Kettle Operation

  1. Filling: Press the lid release button to open the lid. Fill the kettle with the desired amount of fresh water, ensuring it is between the MIN and MAX fill lines on the water window. Close the lid securely.
  2. Placement on Base: Place the kettle firmly onto its 360-degree power base.
  3. Boiling: Press the ON/OFF switch downwards. The indicator light will illuminate, indicating the kettle is heating.
  4. Automatic Shut-off: The kettle will automatically switch off once the water has boiled. The indicator light will extinguish.
  5. Pouring: Carefully lift the kettle from the base and pour the hot water. Be cautious of steam escaping from the spout.
  6. Re-boiling: If the kettle has just boiled, allow a few moments for the internal thermostat to reset before attempting to re-boil.

Toaster Operation

  1. Loading Bread: Place slices of bread or other items into the wide toasting slots. The self-centring guides will automatically adjust to hold the bread evenly.
  2. Select Browning Setting: Turn the browning control dial to your desired setting, from 1 (lightest) to 7 (darkest). Start with a medium setting (e.g., 3 or 4) and adjust as needed for future use.
  3. Start Toasting: Press the toast lever down until it latches. The indicator light for the selected function (if any) will illuminate, and the toasting cycle will begin.
  4. Using Function Buttons:
    • Defrost: Press this button after lowering the lever for frozen bread. The defrost light will illuminate.
    • Reheat: Press this button after lowering the lever to warm already toasted bread. The reheat light will illuminate.
    • Cancel: Press this button at any time to stop the toasting cycle and eject the toast.
    • QuickCheck: Lift the lever momentarily to check toast progress without cancelling the cycle. The lever will automatically return to the down position.
  5. Removing Toast: Once the toasting cycle is complete, the toast will automatically pop up. Use the high-lift lever to raise smaller items for easier removal.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning will help maintain the performance and appearance of your Sunbeam appliances.

  1. Always Unplug: Before cleaning, ensure both the kettle and toaster are unplugged from the power outlet and have cooled down completely.
  2. Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior surfaces of both appliances with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as these can damage the finish.
  3. Kettle Descaling: Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) may build up inside the kettle, especially in hard water areas.
    • Fill the kettle with a solution of one part white vinegar to two parts water.
    • Bring the solution to a boil and let it stand for at least 30 minutes, or longer for heavy build-up.
    • Empty the kettle and rinse thoroughly with fresh water several times.
    • For stubborn deposits, a commercial descaling agent designed for kettles can be used following the product's instructions.
  4. Toaster Crumb Tray: The crumb tray is located at the bottom of the toaster.
    • Slide out the crumb tray.
    • Discard crumbs.
    • Wipe the tray clean with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly before reinserting.
    • Never operate the toaster without the crumb tray in place.
  5. Cord Storage: Both the kettle power base and toaster have built-in cord storage at their base to keep your countertop neat when not in use.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Kettle not boiling / Toaster not operating. Not plugged in; power outlet not active; kettle not properly seated on base; toaster lever not latched. Check power plug and outlet; ensure kettle is correctly placed on base; push toaster lever down until it clicks.
Kettle switches off before boiling. Kettle has limescale build-up; lid not closed properly. Descale the kettle (refer to Maintenance section); ensure lid is securely closed.
Toast is too light/dark. Browning setting is too low/high. Adjust the browning control dial to a higher or lower setting.
Smoke coming from toaster. Crumbs accumulated in the bottom; food lodged in slots. Unplug and allow to cool. Remove crumb tray and clean. Carefully remove any lodged food (do not use metal utensils).
Kettle has an unusual taste or odor. New appliance odor; mineral deposits. Perform initial cleaning steps again (boil and discard water several times); descale the kettle.
