UNGLINGA Erupting Volcano Science Kit Instruction Manual

Model: HZDZKH49

Introduction

The UNGLINGA Erupting Volcano Science Kit offers an engaging and educational experience for children, combining chemistry, geology, and paleontology. This kit allows for multiple experiments, including classic lava eruptions, unique snow eruptions, and the excavation of gemstones and dinosaur fossils. Designed to foster creative and exploratory skills, it provides a hands-on approach to learning about earth science and chemical reactions.

Safety Information

Warning: Not suitable for children under 8 years. For use under adult supervision.

Adult supervision is required at all times during use. Ensure all experiments are conducted in a well-ventilated area and on a protected surface to prevent spills and stains. Do not ingest any materials from the kit. Always wash hands thoroughly after handling chemicals and materials.

What's Included

All components of the UNGLINGA Erupting Volcano Science Kit laid out, including two volcano models, chemical bottles, tools, dinosaurs, and plants.

  • Plastic Volcano Model (black base)
  • Gemstone Dinosaur Dig Volcano Model (beige/pink)
  • Baking Soda (white powder in bottle)
  • Citric Acid (white powder in bottle)
  • Absorbent Resin (white powder in bottle)
  • Red Pigment (small dropper bottle)
  • Measuring Spoon
  • Excavation Tools (2 yellow tools)
  • Plastic Dinosaurs (various types)
  • Plastic Trees/Decorations
  • 4 Real Gemstones (Red Jasper, Chrysocolla, Amethyst Raw Crystals, Snowflake Obsidian)
  • 3 Dinosaur Fossil Skeletons (hidden within the dig volcano)
  • Instruction Sheet

Setup

Before beginning any experiment, ensure you have a clean, flat surface. It is recommended to place the volcano models in a tray or on a protective mat to contain any mess from eruptions or digging. Gather all necessary components from the kit. For the dig volcano, prepare a small container of water for cleaning excavated items.

Operating Instructions

Two children performing a volcano eruption experiment with the UNGLINGA Science Kit, showing a black volcano erupting red lava and a beige volcano with pink foam.

1. Classic Volcano Eruption (Lava)

  1. Place the plastic volcano model (black base) on a stable surface, preferably within a tray to catch overflow.
  2. Add 1 spoonful of baking soda into the volcano crater.
  3. Add 1 spoonful of citric acid into the volcano crater.
  4. Add a few drops of red pigment to a cup of water and mix well.
  5. Slowly pour the colored water into the volcano crater.
  6. Observe the chemical reaction as the "lava" erupts from the volcano.
  7. You can repeat this experiment multiple times using the provided ingredients.

2. Volcano Snow Eruption

Side-by-side comparison of a red lava volcano eruption and a white snow eruption from the UNGLINGA Science Kit.

  1. Place one of the volcano models (plastic or dig volcano) on a stable surface, preferably within a tray.
  2. Prepare a cup of water.
  3. Place 1 spoonful each of citric acid and baking soda into the volcano crater.
  4. Add 2 spoonfuls of absorbent resin into the volcano crater.
  5. Slowly pour the prepared water into the crater.
  6. Observe the snow-like eruption effect as the water reacts with the absorbent resin and other chemicals.
  7. For a more pronounced snow effect, you can sprinkle an additional half spoonful of absorbent resin onto the snow.

3. Gemstone and Dinosaur Fossil Dig

A child carefully excavating a beige volcano model with a yellow tool to uncover hidden treasures.

Image: Child digging for gemstones and fossils in the volcano model.

  1. Place the gemstone dinosaur dig volcano model in a tray to contain debris.
  2. Use the provided excavation tools to carefully chip away at the volcano model.
  3. Work slowly and gently to avoid damaging the hidden items.
  4. As you excavate, you will uncover real gemstones and dinosaur fossil skeletons.
  5. Once excavated, use a brush or a small amount of water to clean the discovered items.
  6. Decorate your volcanic landscape with the plastic dinosaur figures and trees.

Maintenance

After each experiment, clean the volcano models with water and a soft cloth. Ensure all components are dry before storing them. Store unused chemicals in their original sealed containers in a cool, dry place, out of reach of young children. Keep excavation tools clean and dry.

Troubleshooting

  • No Eruption: Ensure correct amounts of baking soda, citric acid, and water are used. The reaction requires all components.
  • Weak Eruption: Try adding slightly more baking soda and citric acid, or ensure the water is added slowly to allow for a sustained reaction.
  • Digging Difficulty: If the dig volcano is too hard, try lightly dampening the surface with a few drops of water to soften it, but avoid oversaturating.
  • Messy Experiments: Always use a tray or protective mat. This kit involves chemical reactions that can be messy.
