Setup

1. Unpacking and Contents

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure all items listed below are present:

  • JBL Cinema SB550 Soundbar
  • Wireless Subwoofer
  • Remote Control (with 2 AAA batteries)
  • HDMI Cable
  • Power Cords (for Soundbar and Subwoofer)
  • Wall-Mount Brackets with Screws
  • Quick Start Guide and Safety Sheet

2. Placement

Position the soundbar centrally below your television. The wireless subwoofer can be placed anywhere in the room, ideally within 10 meters (33 feet) of the soundbar, for optimal bass performance.

3. Connections

Connect the soundbar to your television and power supply as follows:

  1. HDMI ARC Connection: For the best audio quality and control, connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI ARC port on your soundbar and the other end to the HDMI ARC port on your television. Ensure your TV's HDMI ARC function is enabled in its settings.
  2. Optical Connection (Alternative): If your TV does not have an HDMI ARC port, connect an optical cable (not included) from the soundbar's OPTICAL IN port to your TV's optical digital output.
  3. Power Connection: Connect the power cords to the soundbar and the wireless subwoofer, then plug them into a wall outlet.

4. Wireless Subwoofer Pairing

The wireless subwoofer should automatically pair with the soundbar upon power-up. If the connection is not established, or if the subwoofer's indicator light is not solid white, follow these steps:

  • Ensure both the soundbar and subwoofer are powered on.
  • Press and hold the 'Pairing' button on the back of the subwoofer for a few seconds until the indicator light flashes rapidly.
  • Within 30 seconds, press and hold the 'Pairing' button on the soundbar (usually located on the side or back) until its indicator light also flashes.
  • Once successfully paired, the indicator lights on both devices will turn solid white.

Operating

1. Power On/Off

Press the Power button on the remote control or on the soundbar to turn the system on or off.

2. Input Selection

Use the Source button on the remote control to cycle through available input sources: HDMI ARC, Optical, and Bluetooth.

3. Volume Control

Adjust the master volume using the Volume + / - buttons on the remote control or the soundbar. The subwoofer volume can be adjusted independently using the Bass + / - buttons on the remote control.

4. Bluetooth Streaming

To stream audio from a Bluetooth-enabled device:

  1. Press the Bluetooth button on the remote control or the soundbar. The Bluetooth indicator will flash.
  2. On your device, enable Bluetooth and select "JBL Cinema SB550" from the list of available devices.
  3. Once connected, the Bluetooth indicator on the soundbar will turn solid. You can now play audio from your device through the soundbar.

5. Sound Modes

The JBL Cinema SB550 features embedded Dolby Audio for enhanced sound. Use the Voice, Music, and Movie buttons on the remote control to optimize the sound profile for different content types.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your soundbar system, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the surfaces of the soundbar and subwoofer. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, as they may damage the finish.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings on the soundbar and subwoofer are not blocked. Proper airflow prevents overheating.
  • Storage: If storing the unit for an extended period, disconnect it from the power supply and store it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
