Installation (Mounting to Bicycle Frame)

The Bell Zephyr 150 pump includes a mounting bracket for convenient storage on your bicycle frame.

  1. Identify a suitable location on your bicycle frame, typically along the top tube or down tube, where the pump will not interfere with pedaling or other bike components.
  2. Secure the mounting bracket to the frame using the included straps. Ensure the bracket is firmly attached and does not move.
  3. Place the pump into the bracket. The pump should snap securely into place.

1. Prepare the Pump

  • Unfold the T-handle by pivoting it into the upright position for a comfortable grip.
  • Extend the telescoping barrel of the pump to its full length for maximum air volume per stroke.

2. Connect to Tire Valve (Smart Valve)

The Zephyr 150 features a Smart Valve pump head that automatically adjusts to both Presta and Schrader valves.

  • For Schrader Valves: Simply push the pump head firmly onto the valve stem until it is seated securely.
  • For Presta Valves: First, unscrew the small locknut on the Presta valve stem to open it. Then, push the pump head firmly onto the valve stem until it is seated securely.
  • Ensure the pump head is straight and fully engaged to prevent air leakage during inflation.

3. Inflate the Tire

  • With the pump head securely attached, begin pumping by pushing and pulling the handle smoothly.
  • Monitor the integrated pressure gauge to ensure you reach the desired PSI (pounds per square inch) for your tire. Refer to the recommended pressure on your tire's sidewall. The gauge reads up to 120 PSI.

4. Disconnect the Pump

  • Once the desired pressure is reached, quickly and firmly pull the pump head straight off the valve stem.
  • For Presta Valves: Remember to screw the small locknut back down on the valve stem to seal it.
  • Fold the T-handle back into its storage position and retract the telescoping barrel.

Care and Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the pump exterior with a damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the pump shaft to ensure smooth operation. Do not use petroleum-based lubricants as they can damage seals.
  • Storage: Store the pump in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If mounted on your bike, ensure it is secure.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the pump head and seals for any signs of wear or damage. Replace if necessary to maintain optimal performance.

Troubleshooting

  • Pump not inflating tire: Ensure the pump head is fully and securely seated on the valve stem. Check if the valve stem itself is open (especially for Presta valves). Inspect the pump for any visible damage or blockages.
  • Air leaking from pump head: The pump head may not be fully engaged with the valve stem. Push it on more firmly. Check the rubber seal inside the pump head for wear or damage.
  • Difficulty pumping: Ensure the telescoping barrel is extended. If the pump feels stiff, apply a small amount of silicone lubricant to the shaft.
  • Inaccurate gauge reading: Ensure the pump is fully connected to the tire valve. If the gauge consistently reads incorrectly, it may indicate a fault with the gauge or a leak in the system.
