Setup and Initial Use
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the micropipette from its packaging. Inspect for any visible damage.
- Review Certificate: Locate and review the individual test certificate provided with your pipette. This document confirms its calibration and adherence to ISO8655 standards.
- Tip Attachment: Select a suitable pipette tip for the 0.1-2.5µl volume range. Firmly press the pipette shaft into the tip opening with a slight twisting motion to ensure a secure, airtight seal. Do not overtighten.
- Initial Volume Check: Before first use, set the desired volume and perform a few aspiration/dispensing cycles with distilled water to prime the pipette and ensure proper function.
Operating Instructions
1. Setting the Volume:
- Rotate the volume adjustment knob (located at the top of the pipette) to set the desired volume.
- Read the volume clearly on the digital display. Ensure the volume is within the pipette's specified range (0.1-2.5µl).
- Once the desired volume is set, engage the volume lock function (if available on your model) to prevent accidental changes during pipetting.
2. Aspiration (Drawing Liquid):
- Press the operating button down to the first stop (the point of resistance).
- Immerse the pipette tip into the liquid to be aspirated, ensuring it is just below the surface.
- Slowly release the operating button to allow the liquid to be drawn into the tip. Wait a moment for the liquid to fully enter.
- Remove the tip from the liquid, touching it against the edge of the container to remove any excess droplets.
3. Dispensing (Releasing Liquid):
- Place the pipette tip against the inner wall of the receiving vessel at a slight angle.
- Press the operating button down to the first stop to dispense the main volume of liquid.
- Continue pressing the operating button down to the second stop (blow-out) to expel any remaining liquid from the tip.
- While holding the button at the second stop, withdraw the pipette from the vessel.
4. Tip Ejection:
- After dispensing, point the pipette into a waste container.
- Press the tip ejector button (if present) to release the used tip.
- Dispose of the tip according to laboratory safety protocols.
Maintenance
Cleaning:
- The DLAB Hipette is designed with fully autoclavable materials. For sterilization, the entire pipette can be autoclaved at 121°C (250°F) for 20 minutes.
- After autoclaving, allow the pipette to cool completely before use.
- For routine cleaning, wipe the exterior of the pipette with a soft cloth dampened with mild detergent or ethanol. Avoid harsh solvents.
Calibration:
- Regular calibration checks are recommended to ensure continued accuracy, especially after extensive use or autoclaving.
- Refer to ISO8655 guidelines or consult a qualified calibration service for detailed calibration procedures.
Storage:
- Store the pipette vertically in a pipette stand when not in use to prevent contamination and damage to the tip cone.
- Store in a clean, dry environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
