3. Setup

3.1 Connecting the SSD

  1. Identify the correct cable: Use the USB-C to USB-C cable for devices with a USB-C port. For devices with a standard USB-A port, use the USB-C to USB-A cable or the provided converter adapter with the USB-C to USB-C cable.
  2. Connect to your device: Plug the appropriate cable into the USB-C port on the Samsung T9 SSD and the other end into your computer, gaming console, or compatible mobile device.
  3. Power On: The SSD is bus-powered and does not require an external power source. It will power on automatically when connected to a compatible device.

3.2 Initializing and Formatting (If Required)

For new drives, your operating system may prompt you to initialize and format the SSD before use. Follow the on-screen instructions. For optimal performance and compatibility, it is recommended to format the drive using the file system appropriate for your operating system (e.g., NTFS for Windows, APFS for macOS, exFAT for cross-platform compatibility).

4. Operating the SSD

4.1 Data Transfer

The Samsung T9 Portable SSD supports USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, offering sequential read/write speeds of up to 2,000 MB/s. Actual speeds may vary depending on the host device, operating system, and file types. For maximum speed, ensure your host device supports USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 and the UASP mode is enabled.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 SSD Not Recognized

  • Check Cable Connection: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the SSD and your device. Try a different USB port or cable.
  • Verify Compatibility: Confirm your device's USB port type (USB-C, USB-A) and ensure you are using the correct cable or adapter.
  • Check Device Manager (Windows) / Disk Utility (macOS): See if the drive is detected but not assigned a drive letter or needs initialization/formatting.
  • Restart Device: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.

6.2 Slow Data Transfer Speeds

  • USB Port Type: Ensure you are connected to a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 compatible port on your host device for maximum speeds. Older USB ports (e.g., USB 2.0, USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1) will result in lower speeds.
