  2. Plug the other end of the power cable into your vehicle's cigarette lighter socket.
  3. Route the power cable neatly along the edges of your windshield and dashboard to avoid obstruction and ensure safety.

3.4. Initial Setup and App Connection

  1. Once powered on, the dash cam will typically start recording automatically.
  2. Download the "Type S Drive" app from your mobile device's app store (available on Android and iOS).
  3. Follow the in-app instructions to connect your smartphone to the dash cam's built-in Wi-Fi. This allows for live view, video playback, and settings adjustments.

4. Operating the Dash Cam

The Type S T400 is designed for intuitive operation, with most advanced features managed automatically or through the companion app.

4.1. Recording Modes

  • Continuous Loop Recording: The dash cam records continuously in short segments (e.g., 1, 3, or 5 minutes). When the memory card is full, the oldest unlocked files are overwritten.
  • Smart Incident Recording (G-Sensor): In the event of a sudden impact or collision, the built-in G-Sensor detects the event and automatically locks the current video segment, preventing it from being overwritten by loop recording. These files are saved in a separate folder.
  • Parking Surveillance Mode: When hardwired (requires separate hardwire kit, not included), the dash cam can monitor your vehicle while parked. If an impact is detected, it will automatically wake up and record a 20-second video clip, securing evidence even when the vehicle is off.

4.2. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

The T400 dash cam utilizes AI algorithms to provide real-time warnings, enhancing driving safety.

  • Blind Spot Warning: Monitors your vehicle's blind spots and alerts you to the presence of other vehicles, typically through visual or audible signals. This feature aids in safer lane changes.
  • Front & Rear Collision Warning: Alerts you if you are approaching the vehicle in front too closely or if a vehicle behind is approaching too quickly, helping to prevent rear-end collisions.
  • Lane Departure Warning: Detects if your vehicle drifts out of its lane without signaling and provides an alert, helping to prevent unintentional lane departures.
  • Stop & Go Reminder: Notifies you when the vehicle ahead starts moving after a stop (e.g., at a traffic light), prompting you to proceed.
  • Pedestrian Detection: Identifies pedestrians in your vehicle's path and provides timely alerts to help avoid potential hazards.

4.3. Accessing Videos via Type S Drive App

The Type S Drive app provides convenient access to your dash cam's recordings without needing to remove the MicroSD card.

  1. Ensure your mobile device is connected to the dash cam's Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open the Type S Drive app.
  3. Navigate to the video playback section. You can view live footage, browse recorded clips, and download them directly to your phone.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your dash cam.

  • Cleaning the Lenses: Gently wipe the camera lenses with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove dust or smudges. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
  • MicroSD Card Management: Periodically format the MicroSD card (at least once a month) using the dash cam's settings or the app to prevent data corruption and ensure smooth recording. Back up any important footage before formatting.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the Type S website or the Type S Drive app for any available firmware updates. Keeping the firmware updated can improve performance and add new features.
  • Temperature Considerations: Avoid exposing the dash cam to extreme temperatures for prolonged periods. While designed for automotive use, excessive heat can affect performance and lifespan.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Type S T400 Dash Cam, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Dash cam does not power on.No power from vehicle's socket; loose connection; faulty cable.Check the vehicle's cigarette lighter socket for power. Ensure the power cable is securely connected to both the dash cam and the socket. Try a different power source or cable if available.
Recording stops or footage is corrupted.MicroSD card issue (full, corrupted, incompatible); G-Sensor sensitivity too high.Format the MicroSD card regularly. Use a high-quality, compatible MicroSD card (Class 10 or U3 recommended). Reduce G-Sensor sensitivity in settings if frequent bumps trigger incident recording.
ADAS features (e.g., Lane Departure, Collision Warning) are not working or give false alarms.Improper camera alignment; dirty windshield; software glitch; environmental factors.Ensure the dash cam is mounted centrally and correctly aligned with the road. Clean the windshield area in front of the camera. Restart the device. Update firmware if available. Note that performance can vary based on lighting, weather, and road conditions.
Wi-Fi connection issues with the app.Incorrect Wi-Fi password; interference; app malfunction.Ensure you are connecting to the correct Wi-Fi network broadcast by the dash cam. Re-enter the Wi-Fi password. Restart both the dash cam and your mobile device. Reinstall the Type S Drive app.
Parking mode not working. Not hardwired; G-Sensor sensitivity too low; power supply issue.Parking surveillance requires the dash cam to be hardwired to the vehicle's power supply. Check hardwire kit installation. Adjust G-Sensor sensitivity for parking mode.
Unit falls from windshield.Improper adhesive application; extreme temperatures.Ensure the windshield surface is clean and dry before applying the adhesive mount. Apply firm pressure for the recommended duration during installation. Avoid direct sunlight exposure for prolonged periods if possible, especially in hot climates.

If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact Type S customer support for further assistance.
