Safety Information

Always observe the following safety precautions during installation and operation:

  • Disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal before starting any electrical work.
  • Ensure all wiring is properly sized and fused to prevent electrical fires or damage.
  • Mount the amplifier securely in a location that allows for adequate ventilation and is protected from moisture and excessive heat.
  • Avoid running wires near sharp edges or moving parts. Use grommets where wires pass through metal.
  • Do not operate the amplifier if it is damaged or malfunctioning. Seek professional assistance.
  • Prolonged exposure to high sound pressure levels can cause permanent hearing damage. Use caution when adjusting volume levels.

Setup & Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the performance and longevity of your amplifier. If you are unsure about any steps, consult a professional car audio installer.

Mounting the Amplifier:

Choose a mounting location that is dry, well-ventilated, and secure. Ensure there is sufficient space around the amplifier for air circulation. Use the provided mounting hardware to secure the amplifier firmly to a solid surface.

  • Power (+12V): Connect a direct wire from the vehicle's positive battery terminal to the +12V input. Use a fuse holder with an appropriate fuse (not included) as close to the battery as possible. Input Terminal Connection: 4 AWG.
  • Ground (GND): Connect a wire from the GND input to a clean, unpainted metal surface on the vehicle's chassis. Ensure a good electrical connection.
  • Remote (REM IN): Connect a wire from your head unit's remote turn-on output to the REM IN terminal. This will turn the amplifier on and off with your head unit.
  • Speaker Output: Connect your subwoofer(s) to the SPEAKER OUTPUT terminals. Ensure the total impedance of your speakers matches the amplifier's minimum permissible load impedance (1 Ohm). Output Terminal Connection: 10 AWG.
  • Input (RCA): Connect your head unit's RCA pre-out cables to the amplifier's INPUT RCA jacks.

Operating Instructions

Once installed, you can adjust the amplifier settings to optimize sound performance for your system.

Image: Front panel of the amplifier displaying the various audio adjustment controls and indicator lights.
  • Input Mode: Select between LOW and HIGH input sensitivity based on your head unit's pre-out voltage. Start with LOW and switch to HIGH if the signal is too weak.
  • Gain (Level): This control matches the amplifier's input sensitivity to the output of your head unit. Start with the gain at minimum and slowly increase it until you hear distortion, then back off slightly. Do not use the gain control as a volume knob.
  • HPF (High Pass Filter): Adjusts the high-pass crossover frequency (10-50Hz). This filter allows frequencies above the set point to pass through. Typically used for full-range speakers, but can be used to protect subwoofers from very low frequencies.
  • LPF (Low Pass Filter): Adjusts the low-pass crossover frequency (40-250Hz). This filter allows frequencies below the set point to pass through. Essential for subwoofers to reproduce only bass frequencies.
  • Bass Level Adjustment: Adjusts the bass boost level (0-12dB). Use sparingly to avoid distortion.
  • Bass Frequency Adjustment: Adjusts the center frequency for the bass boost (35-90Hz).

Indicator Lights:

  • Power (Green): Illuminates when the amplifier is powered on and operating normally.
  • Protect (Red): Illuminates when the amplifier enters protection mode due to overheating, short circuit, or low voltage. The amplifier will shut down to prevent damage.
  • Clip (Orange): Illuminates when the input signal is too high, causing the amplifier to clip and produce distorted sound. Reduce the gain or head unit volume if this light is active.

Remote Bass Knob:

The included remote bass knob allows for convenient adjustment of the subwoofer output level from the driver's seat. Connect the bass knob to the 'REMOTE' port on the amplifier using the provided cable.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your amplifier, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No Power (Power LED off)Blown fuse, loose power/ground/remote wire, no remote signal.Check fuse at battery and amplifier. Verify all power, ground, and remote connections are secure and receiving proper voltage.
Amplifier in Protection Mode (Protect LED on)Overheating, short circuit in speaker wiring, impedance too low, low/high voltage.Allow amplifier to cool down. Check speaker wiring for shorts. Verify speaker impedance is 1 Ohm or higher. Check vehicle's battery voltage.
No Sound OutputRCA cables disconnected/damaged, gain set too low, speaker wires disconnected, head unit settings.Check RCA connections. Adjust gain. Verify speaker wires are connected. Ensure head unit is sending audio signal.
Distorted Sound (Clip LED on)Gain set too high, input signal too strong, speaker impedance mismatch, damaged speakers.Reduce gain setting. Check head unit output level. Verify speaker impedance. Inspect speakers for damage.
Engine Noise / WhiningPoor ground connection, RCA cables too close to power wires, faulty ground loop.Ensure ground connection is clean and secure. Reroute RCA cables away from power wires. Install a ground loop isolator if necessary.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Deaf Bonce amplifier, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the amplifier's exterior with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and debris. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the amplifier's cooling fins are not obstructed. Adequate airflow is essential to prevent overheating.
  • Connections: Occasionally check all power, ground, remote, and speaker connections to ensure they remain tight and free of corrosion.
  • Environment: Protect the amplifier from direct moisture, extreme temperatures, and excessive vibrations.
