Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the installation and maintenance of ORALOCK replacement parts designed for MTD Craftsman T1200, 247.203770, and 13A278XS299 lawn tractors. It covers components such as air filters, fuel filters, and hose clamps. Please read these instructions carefully before proceeding with any installation or maintenance to ensure proper function and safety.
Safety Information
- Always turn off the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire before performing any maintenance or installation.
- Allow the engine to cool down completely before handling any components.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves and eye protection.
- Ensure the tractor is on a stable, level surface with the parking brake engaged.
- Refer to your tractor's original owner's manual for specific safety precautions and procedures.
Installation Guide
This section details the installation of the replacement air filter, fuel filters, and hose clamps.

Figure 1: Complete ORALOCK Replacement Kit. This image displays the primary components: one rectangular air filter with a red top and black foam base, two inline fuel filters, and four small metal hose clamps.
1. Air Filter Replacement
- Locate the Air Filter Housing: On your MTD Craftsman lawn tractor, the air filter housing is typically found near the engine.
- Open the Housing: Release the clips or unscrew the fasteners holding the air filter housing cover in place.
- Remove Old Filter: Carefully remove the old air filter. Note its orientation.
- Clean Housing: Clean any debris or dust from inside the air filter housing.
- Install New Filter: Insert the new ORALOCK air filter, ensuring it fits snugly and in the correct orientation.
- Secure Housing: Reattach the cover and secure the clips or fasteners.

2. Fuel Filter Replacement
- Locate Fuel Line: Identify the fuel line running from the fuel tank to the carburetor. The fuel filter is typically an inline component within this line.
- Drain Fuel (if necessary): If the fuel tank is full, consider draining some fuel or clamping the fuel line to prevent spills.
- Remove Old Filter: Use pliers to loosen and slide back the existing hose clamps. Carefully twist and pull the old fuel filter from the fuel lines. Be prepared for a small amount of fuel spillage.
- Install New Filter: Insert the new ORALOCK fuel filter into the fuel line, ensuring the arrow on the filter points towards the engine (direction of fuel flow).
- Secure with Clamps: Slide the new hose clamps (provided in the kit) over the fuel lines and position them securely over the connections to the new filter. Tighten the clamps.
- Check for Leaks: After installation, check for any fuel leaks before starting the engine.
Post-Installation Check
After replacing the parts, perform the following checks:
- Ensure all connections are secure and there are no loose parts.
- Verify that the air filter housing is properly sealed.
- Check for any fuel leaks around the new fuel filter and hose clamps.
- Reconnect the spark plug wire.
- Start the engine and listen for any unusual noises or signs of improper operation.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance of your air and fuel filters is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your lawn tractor.
- Air Filter: Inspect the air filter every 25 hours of operation or annually, whichever comes first. Replace it if it appears dirty, clogged, or damaged. Operating with a dirty air filter can reduce engine power and increase fuel consumption.
- Fuel Filter: Inspect the fuel filter annually or if you notice issues with fuel delivery or engine performance. Replace it if it appears discolored, clogged, or if the engine is running poorly due to fuel starvation.
- Hose Clamps: Periodically check hose clamps for tightness and signs of corrosion or damage. Replace if necessary to prevent fuel leaks.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine runs rough or loses power | Clogged air filter or fuel filter | Inspect and replace the air filter. Inspect and replace the fuel filter. |
| Difficulty starting engine | Clogged fuel filter, insufficient fuel flow | Check fuel filter for blockage and replace if necessary. Ensure fuel lines are clear. |
| Fuel leak around filter | Loose hose clamps or improperly seated filter | Tighten hose clamps. Re-seat the fuel filter, ensuring proper connection. |
