Important Safety Information

READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS AND WARNINGS BEFORE USE

Filling Environment:

  • Do not refill tanks or cylinders inside of a building.
  • Ensure the area of refill is well ventilated.
  • Ensure there is no appliance with an air intake within 10 feet of filling site.
  • Ensure there is no source of ignition within 25 feet of filling site.
  • Avoid areas with readily ignitable materials such as long dry grass or leaves.
  • Do not fill in environments above 100°F (38°C).

Fire/Explosion Hazard:

DANGER: Propane is extremely flammable.

WARNING: Follow all warnings and instructions accompanying refillable tank (sold separately).

WARNING: Never bring a 20-lb propane cylinder indoors. Never refill Fuel Keg Refillable Propane Tank in an enclosure or unventilated area.

WARNING: When full, tank contains gas under pressure; may explode if heated. Contains enough gas to cause a serious fire, explosion, and burns. To reduce the chances of a catastrophic episode, please make sure you read, follow, and understand the following warnings and instructions.

WARNING: Use of this kit with any 1-lb tank, other than the Fuel Keg Refillable Propane Tank, is strictly prohibited and may result in fire or explosion.

Before Use:

  1. Check all seals and connections on the appliance.
  2. Always use on a stable and level surface.
  3. Do not use this kit if rust or damage is visible.
  4. Hold the Fuel Keg Refillable Propane Tank upright while attaching.
  5. Make connection outdoors, away from pilot lights, flames, sparks, and other ignition sources.
  6. Hand tighten only. Never use tools to tighten as this can cause damage.
  7. Check for leaks by applying soapy water at the connection. Look for bubbles and listen for the sound of gas escaping. Do not use if leaking.

During Use:

  1. Do not leave a tank attached when not in use.
  2. Disconnect outdoors away from pilot lights, flames, sparks, and other ignition sources.

If a Leak Fire Occurs:

DO NOT EXTINGUISH unless the leak can be stopped safely. Eliminate all ignition sources if safe to do so. Let tank burn out.

Components

The Mr. Heater Fuel Keg Propane Refill Kit includes the following components:

  • Refill Valve Assembly: Also known as "The Tap," this brass assembly connects to your 20 lb. propane cylinder and the Fuel Keg 1 lb. tank for refilling.
  • Three Tank Stabilizing Feet: These sturdy plastic feet attach to the safety collar of your 20 lb. cylinder to provide a stable base during the refilling process. They can also be attached to the bottom of the cylinder for increased stability when not in use.

Note: The Fuel Keg 1 lb. / 16 oz. Refillable Propane Tank and the 20 lb. propane cylinder are sold separately and are required for use with this kit.

Setup and Operating Instructions

Follow these steps carefully to safely set up and operate your Mr. Heater Fuel Keg Propane Refill Kit. Always perform refilling outdoors in a well-ventilated area, away from any ignition sources.

  1. Wear Gloves: Always wear appropriate protective gloves when handling propane cylinders and the refill kit.

  2. Attach Tank Feet: Securely attach the three tank stabilizing feet to the safety collar on top of your 20 lb. propane cylinder. Hand tighten the screws to ensure a stable base. No additional tools are required.

  3. Attach Refill Valve Assembly: Connect the refill valve assembly ("The Tap") to the valve on your 20 lb. propane cylinder. Ensure a hand-tight connection. Do not use tools to tighten.

  4. Flip Assembled Cylinder and Kit: Carefully flip the assembled 20 lb. cylinder and refill kit upside down, resting it securely on the attached tank feet.

  5. Connect Fuel Keg Refillable Tank: Connect your empty Fuel Keg 1 lb. refillable propane tank to the refill adapter. Ensure a hand-tight connection.

  6. Check for Leaks: Apply soapy water to all connections. Look for bubbles, which indicate a gas leak. If bubbles appear, tighten connections or replace seals as necessary. Do not proceed if leaks are present.
  7. Turn On 20 lb. Propane Cylinder: Slowly open the valve on the 20 lb. propane cylinder.
  8. Open Propane Bleeder Valve: Turn the ring on the Fuel Keg 1 lb. tank counterclockwise to open its propane bleeder valve. You may hear a slight hiss as air is released.
  9. Begin Filling: Hold down the lever on the refill valve assembly to begin filling the Fuel Keg tank. The filling process typically takes approximately 60-90 seconds, though refill times may vary.

  10. Monitor for Mist: Continue holding the lever until a white mist appears from the bleeder valve on the Fuel Keg tank. This mist should only appear for a second, indicating the tank is full.
  11. Release Lever: Immediately release the lever on the refill valve assembly upon seeing the white mist.
  12. Close Propane Bleeder Valve: Turn the ring on the Fuel Keg 1 lb. tank clockwise to close its propane bleeder valve.
  13. Turn Off 20 lb. Propane Cylinder: Close the valve on the 20 lb. propane cylinder.
  14. Disconnect Tank: Disconnect the filled Fuel Keg 1 lb. tank from the refill adapter.
